Some days just call for sweets.   While I love to bake cakes, cookies, and cupcakes, sometimes it’s nice to take a break and just make a simple dessert.  One of my favorite simple desserts is chocolate covered pretzels.  It requires no baking and everything is ready in 15-20 minutes.

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of Puppy Chow recipes.   The name is a little odd and when I looked it up it said that people in the United States call it Puppy Chow, Muddy Buddies, Monkey Munch, or Reindeer Food.  It got it’s name because it apparently resembles a brand of dog chow.  I’ve never seen white dog food before but I’ll go with it.

St. Patrick's Day Puppy Chow is mint flavored and delicious

I love how simple the recipe is and how easy it is to switch up and ingredient or two and make it for any holiday.   It’s sweet, great to snack on, and it’s festive.  I made a batch of St. Patrick’s Day Puppy Chow with green candy melts and mint extract.

One big change is that I didn’t use any peanut butter.  I know many recipes call for peanut butter but as you know I don’t do peanut butter.  I thought about adding in Cookie Butter but I thought it would be sweet enough without it.

This would be a great recipe to make with kids because it only has a handful of ingredients and they would be great at shaking the mixture with the powdered sugar.  In this recipe you can add the M&M’s before you put them in the powdered sugar but I like adding them afterwards so you can better see their green color.

This Puppy Chow was a hit at work.  As people walked past they would grab a handful and munch on it while they walked down the hallway.   It’s got a great crunch, sweetness from the powdered sugar, and has a touch of mint.  My principal joked that I put the powdered sugar on it so I would know who was eating it as the powdered sugar got on everyone!
