Garlic Bubble Bread: What’s Baking?

This month the What’s Baking challenge is being host by me!   I chose the theme of Baking Bread because during the winter there is nothing better then smelling fresh baked bread and pulling a hot loaf out of the oven to enjoy on a cold, snowy day.

I actually love baking bread so I have quite a collection of breads that I make on a regular basis.  I make a lot of quick breads which don’t have to rise and are not yeast based.   I also make a lot of sandwich breads with yeast.   So for this challenge I wanted to try something a little different.

Garlic Bubble Bread

I went to my collection of cookbooks because one of my resolutions for 2015 is to use my cookbooks more often.  I found a recipe for Garlic Bubble Bread.   It’s basically a yeast dough that is broken into 12 pieces, dipped into seasoned garlic butter, and placed in a bread pan.   When it bakes it all comes together in the shape of the loaf pan but it’s super easy to pull apart.

This bread tastes like pizza and garlic bread.  In fact, my husband and I dipped our bread pieces into marinara sauce in order to enjoy it.   So while it would be great as a side dish to any pasta, it’s also perfect as an appetizer too!  Simple set it on a plate along with warm marinara sauce and allow people to break off one of the “bubbles” and dip.  I’m so glad I made this bread and will be making it often.

Garlic Bubble Bread

Yield: 1 loaf
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Inactive Time: 2 hours 30 minutes
Total Time: 3 hours 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 3 Tablespoons warm water
  • 1 c. warm milk
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3-3 1/2 c. flour
  • 3 Tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 c. Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl dissolve the yeast in the warm water.
  2. Add in the milk, sugar, oil, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Stir in 2 cups of flour and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn onto a floured surface and knead in the addition 1 cup of flour. Continue kneading for 5-8 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, flipping over once to coat with oil. Cover and let rise for 1 1/2 hours or until doubled.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 pieces.
  7. In a small bowl combine the butter, garlic cloves, parsley, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  8. Roll each piece of dough into a ball. Dip it into the butter mixture and place it in a greased loaf pan. Continue with remaining dough. Pour any extra butter over top of the bread.
  9. Sprinkle the bread with Parmesan cheese. Cover and allow to rise for 1 hour.
  10. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Bake the bread for 40 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes.
  11. Serve with marinara if desired.
