Baby J is currently 10 months old and loves to eat.  He’s been eating solid food since he was about 4 and a half months old.  We started out with just baby oatmeal for a few weeks and then I started making all of his baby food.  He had strictly homemade baby food until he was almost 7 months old.  After that he began eating baby food pouches mixed with fruits, veggies, and grains.  He also eats the little containers with meat in them.

Gerber Baby Food Pouches

Baby J has just started eating actual food a few weeks ago.  I break off tiny pieces of soft foods like fruits, cheese, noodles, and avocado.  However, he mostly still eats purees.   He eats about half homemade baby food and half pouches/store bought food.   While I’m not sure how much people care about what type of food their baby is eating, I try every single thing I give to him.

I’ll say this, not all pouches are created equally.  I definitely have my favorites and I know Baby J has his favorites.  We’ve tried 6 different types of pouches and while I would give any of them to Baby J again, there are definitely 3 that I prefer to give over the others.   They have better flavor to them, they have awesome combinations, and they don’t add anything extra to the pouches.

Baby Food Pouches Review

So what are my favorites and how do I feel about the rest?   Read on to see how Baby J and I rate six different types of baby food pouches.

Happy Baby Organic Pouches

The Happy Family Organics brand has a line of baby food pouches, yogurt, cereal, puffs, creamies, yogis, munchies, and more!  We’ve had the baby food pouches, yogurt, puffs, and creamies and have liked them all.

Things I like about Happy Baby Organics:

  • It’s a mom owned and operated company.
  • All the food is certified organic.
  • The pouch tells exactly how much of each ingredient is in the pouch.  For example it will say 1/2 of a mango, 1 carrot, and 2 tablespoons of oats.
  • I can pronounce all of the ingredients and know what they are.
  • The flavor combinations are fun, creative, and delicious.
  • I enjoy the flavors of the pouches and they are Baby J’s favorite!
  • I like that the pouches have fruits and vegetables as well as quinoa, granola, oats, and more!
  • We like the flavors of their yogurt and the facts that they come in small serving containers so they are the perfect size for babies!

Things I don’t like about Happy Baby Organics:

  • They only have a very limited number of meat pouches.

Overall score:  5 out of 5 stars!

Plum Organics Baby Food Pouches

Plum Organics Pouches

Plum Organics runs a close second in our favorite pouches.  They have pouches, baby bowls, puffs, and little teethers.  We’ve tried the pouches and bowls and have been impressed with both of them.

Things I like about Plum Organics:

  • They use organic, non-GMO ingredients in their pouches.
  • They have delicious flavor combinations.
  • They have a fun line called Eat Your Colors where the entire pouch is one color but has a variety of fruits and vegetables in it that are that color.
  • They combine fruits and vegetables with ingredients I haven’t seen elsewhere such are millet, amaranth, and coconut cream.
  • Baby J and I have enjoyed every pouch and bowl we’ve had from Plum Organics.
  • They donate pouches to hungry children in the United States.

Things I don’t like about Plum Organics:

  • They don’t have many meat options.

Overall score:   5 out of 5 stars!

Gerber Organics Baby Food Pouches

Gerber Organic pouches

Let’s be honest, since I was a kid Gerber has been a name that I’ve known and trusted.  I know so many more brands have popped up since then but when we went to the store and I saw they had an organic line I was thrilled!  Their organic foods include baby food, 100% juice, snacks, and cereal.

Things I like about Gerber Organics:

  • I like that it is a brand I know and have trusted since I was a kid.
  • All of the ingredients are certified organic.
  • The combinations are simple but flavorful.
  • I like that they use spices like vanilla and cinnamon in their products.
  • They have a Smart Flow Cap so the pouch doesn’t spill everywhere.
  • They list how much of each ingredient is in the pouch.

Things I don’t like about Gerber Organics:

  • They do not have any meat options.
  • Some of the pouches say 12+months on them but they are all things Baby J eats now.

Overall Score:  4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Gerber Baby Food Pouches

Gerber is a name known and trusted by most families.  They have an incredible line of products including baby food, snacks, formula, beverages, cereal, yogurt, meals, and even side dishes.   They have a ton of different products to choose from so it’s easy to find what you are looking for.

Things I like about Gerber Baby Food Pouches:

  • They have Smart Flow so the don’t spill everywhere.
  • The products give an age and what the child should be doing before eating each product (8 months or a crawler, 12 months or a walker)
  • They have a ton of flavor combinations that taste pretty good.
  • Their first foods are all simply one fruit or one vegetable which makes it nice to try out a food and make sure baby isn’t allergic.
  • They have a variety of meat options which is really nice because most companies do not.
  • They come in pouches or small plastic containers.
  • The plastic containers are great for washing out and using as snack holders!
  • They have options that are chunkier purees which is great for getting baby used to textures.

Things I don’t like about Gerber Baby Food Pouches:

  • They don’t contain organic ingredients.
  • Some of the flavors are hard to distinguish in the pouches.
  • Some of the containers have a lot of ingredients in them.

Overall score:   4 out of 5 stars.

Beech-Nut Baby Food Pouches

Beech-Nut is a brand I hadn’t heard of before having Baby J.  They have baby food, pouches, cereal, puffs, snacks, and an organic line.  We haven’t had anything but the baby food and pouches.

Things I like about Beech-Nut Pouches:

  • They have a line of organic pouches.
  • The flavor combinations are creative and fun.
  • Most of their products are non-GMO
  • They have breakfast pouches which include yogurt with fruit.
  • The pouches taste pretty good and Baby J enjoyed them.

Things I don’t like about Beech-Nut Pouches:

  • They don’t have any meat options.
  • While the flavor combinations are creative, there aren’t a whole lot of them.
  • The flavor of the pouches is good, but it’s not the best.

Overall score:  3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Earth’s Best Baby Food Pouches:

Earth’s Best is another company I had never heard of before having Baby J.  They have baby food, pouches, cereal, and formula.  Their food is all organic.  We’ve only tried a few of these but they’ve been enjoyed.

Things I like about Earth’s Best Pouches:

  • The pouches include organic ingredients.
  • Many of the flavor combinations are simple but they do have some ingredients I haven’t seen in many other pouches like red beans, garbanzo, raisins, and risotto.
  • The pouches taste pretty good.
  • Many of the ingredients are kosher.
  • There are no artificial colors or flavors.
  • Baby J enjoys the meat pouches a lot.

Things I don’t like about Earth’s Best Pouches:

  • There aren’t many meat options.
  • Some of the combinations are a little odd and when I try them they don’t seem to work.
  • There aren’t a ton of flavor options.
  • I find that sometimes a bit of the food gets stuck in the spout of the pouch.

Overall score:   3 out of 5 stars.

So overall I would buy any of these pouches again for Baby J.  They all have their good points and they have a few negatives but I don’t worry at all about him enjoying any of these.  I hope that my review helps you to choose the best baby food pouches for your little one!

Do you have a favorite brand of Baby Food Pouches?   I’d love to hear about it!
