Last year I had my very first Moscow Mule.  I’m not sure how I missed these through the years, possibly because they have ginger beer in them and I’m not a beer person, but I never had one until the Food Wine Conference after party.   I love the sweet, tart, and spicy ginger flavor of these.  They don’t taste like beer at all!

Since then I’ve been making them for us at home.  Sometimes I make a regular Moscow Mule and sometimes I add in different juices and flavored vodkas.  It’s fun mixing them up and coming up with new creations.

Last week I was having a few friends over and I wanted to serve a signature cocktail for our gathering.  I know, I know, only a food blogger has a signature cocktail at a small gathering but it’s my thing!   I knew I wanted to serve Moscow Mules but I wanted to try a different flavor.   I also didn’t want to use ginger beer because honestly, it’s expensive and each mule uses half a bottle.  So when we are having multiple people over the price adds up.

I love sipping on this refreshing Cranberry Moscow Mule to relax.

I just happened to be watching Food Network Saturday morning and one of the shows had Moscow Mules made with ginger simple syrup.  They used plenty of ginger to get the spicy flavor and it worked great!   So instead of using ginger beer I whipped up my own ginger simple syrup.

I had some cranberry juice in the refrigerator so I decided to make Cranberry Moscow Mules.  I still used lime juice because lime and cranberry just go so well together.   Then I added my ginger simple syrup, some bubbly water, and ice.   The combination looked really pretty with lime wedges and fresh cranberries in it.

It tasted really good too.  It was sweet, tart, and spicy from the ginger.   This is a delicious twist on the classic Moscow Mule.
