Shaving Cream Easter Eggs

When I was growing up we always decorated Easter eggs a few days before Easter.   We got the old fashion little tabs that you put in vinegar and water and then dye them.

I loved dipping the eggs in multiple colors to see how they turned out but even more I enjoyed doing it with my family.  It was always a fun time right before the holiday and something I looked forward too.

The one bad thing about dyeing Easter eggs that way is that it stains your hands forever.   Nothing takes that stuff off so it’s a pain.   So I’ve been looking for other ways to decorate eggs that either isn’t a huge mess or doesn’t totally stain my hands.  Over the past few years I’ve really enjoyed making these Flower Power Easter Eggs and the Galaxy Easter Eggs.

This year I decided to try Shaving Cream Eggs.   They did look messy but I thought maybe it wouldn’t be too bad and I knew it wouldn’t stain my hands too much.   It’s a super easy way to dye eggs and it doesn’t take long.

However, I’ve done this once with gel shaving cream that turns to foam and once with regular foaming shaving cream.   Get the foaming shaving cream as the colors look so much better!

I used a muffin tin to put the shaving cream in.  Then I used food coloring and put a few drops into each tin.  Some I kept one color and some I mixed colors.  Then I used a cotton swab to swirl the color.   Since I used a muffin tin I could dye 12 eggs at a time.   Simply dunk the egg in the shaving cream, roll it around, and let it sit in the muffin tin.  That’s it!

After letting it sit for a while take the eggs out and rinse them in cold water.  This will clean off the shaving cream but leave the color on the eggs.  Let the eggs air dry and then use however you’d like!

Shaving Cream Easter Eggs

Yield: 1 dozen eggs

Make your own colored Easter eggs using shaving cream!

Ingredients

• 1 can shaving cream
• 1 package food coloring
• 12 eggs, hard boiled and cooled
• cotton swabs
• 1 muffin tin

Instructions

1. Fill each of the muffin tin cups halfway full with shaving cream.
2. Add several drops of food coloring to each muffin cup. You can use 1 color or multiple colors.
3. Use a cotton swab and swirl the color into the shaving cream.
4. Place 1 egg in each muffin cup and roll it around until it is covered. Leave the egg in the muffin tin.
5. Allow the eggs to sit for 15-20 minutes in the muffin cups.
6. Remove the eggs from the muffin tin and rinse off with cold water. Place on paper towels and allow to air dry. Store in the refrigerator.
