When Becca Muchmore drops out of grad school, all she has left to fall back on is her baking. Ignoring her mother’s usual barrage of disapproval and disappointment, she decides to start a small business hand-delivering her wares. A friend introduces her to an office of hungry lawyers, who agree to give her a try. Her lizard-booted neighbor Sal is happy to help out when he can, and almost before she knows it, Becca’s Best is up and running.

Before she can settle into a routine, things get complicated. The office ogress could easily be Becca’s sister and has absolutely no patience with cookies or other frivolities. Even worse, her boyfriend is the man of Becca’s dreams–kind, funny, successful, and brain-meltingly gorgeous. As the dark undercurrents threaten to pull her down, Becca swiftly finds herself neck-deep in office politics, clandestine romance, and flour. Saving her business (and finding true love) is going to take everything she’s got, and more.

Packed with charm, sparkling humor, and a genuinely unforgettable cast, this delicious tale of a woman struggling to find her path might just be Jessica Barksdale Inclán’s finest novel to date.  (-synopsis)

How to Bake a Man

Becca hasn’t been happy since her boyfriend, Danny, left several years ago.  She’s been working at a job she doesn’t really like and has next to no social life.  So when she decides to go back to school and get her MBA her mother is thrilled.  Becca is ready to make a go of it until she sets foot in the classroom.  She realizes she is at least 5 years older then the other students.  She realizes she doesn’t belong.  Finally, she realizes she doesn’t want to be there.

On a whim Becca decides to start a baking business.  Baking is the one thing that truly makes her happy.  Her best friend gets her a meeting with a company and soon she is trucking the snack cart around the office twice a day to get the employees the sugar they need to get through the afternoon.

While Becca is thrilled by her new job, her mother is not so happy.   She wishes Becca would have stayed in school but she is supporting her in her business.   Becca realizes she can’t do it alone and enlists the help of her sexy neighbor Sal.  Sal isn’t the best cook in the world but he’s great at measuring, stirring, and driving Becca to the office.  The two of them together make a successful partnership.

Then Becca meets Jeff.   Jeff is a gorgeous lawyer who seems to have feelings for her.  The only problem is that Jeff is dating the scariest lawyer in the office.   Jennifer is not to be reckoned with.   She is a top notch lawyer.  She also looks an awful lot like Becca.

This book is a quick and fun read.   It’s a whirlwind of love, friendship, and hard work.   Becca’s characters is hard working and determined yet she has a side of her that is very unsure.   Sal, the sexy neighbor, is like a breath of fresh air.  He says what’s on his mind, is helpful to a fault, and all the ladies love him.

So who will Becca end up with?   Will she learn the recipe to baking up a good man?

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
