Chocolate and peanut butter seem to be a favorite combination among many people.   I don’t quite understand it as I am not a peanut butter fan but whenever there is peanut butter and chocolate people come running.

Last week one of the fifth grade teachers brought me several jars of peanut butter and several jars of chocolate spread.  She said they had bought too many for a science experiment they were doing and she wondered if I could use some to bake something.   I immediately scooped them up and took them home.

I had no trouble figuring out what to make with them.  Have you ever searched for peanut butter and chocolate desserts?   Millions of recipes come up.  I simply picked one that sounded easy and used both of the ingredients I had.  These chocolate peanut butter bars are so easy to make and according to everyone who ate one, they are melt in your mouth delicious.

The bars come out of the oven and they look like they aren’t cooked but they are.  Don’t over cook them!  They should be soft and gooey.  They do melt in the mouth and are filled with chocolate and peanut butter.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

Yield: 12 bars
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

Decadent peanut butter bars are soft and gooey with chocolate swirl topping.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter, melted
  • 1/4 c. peanut butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/3 c. chocolate chips
  • 3/4 c. chocolate spread

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray and 8 x 8 baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
  3. In a large bowl combine the butter, peanut butter, brown sugar, egg, vanilla, and flour. Mix until well combined.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips. Spread in the prepared pan.
  5. Spoon the chocolate spread onto the top in three long, skinny rows.
  6. Using a knife swirl the chocolate into the peanut butter batter. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and cool completely. Cut and serve once cooled.
