I find that every December I get a bit overwhelmed with sweets. While I love making baked goods, by the time January comes I’m ready to enjoy a few savory dishes. It seems like every holiday party or event we attend during December has sweet drinks, sweet treats, and sweets.
So when I was given the opportunity to try Golden Bordeaux wines I wasn’t sure because I didn’t want to have a ton of sweet wines around the house during the holidays. Then I read the message and it said that each wine would be paired with a savory snack. I was definitely intrigued and decided to try them.
The Golden wines of Bordeaux come from one of the world’s most renowned regions. The region’s oceanic climate is the only climate that allows for the development of Botrytis Cinerea which is what concentrates the grape’s aromas to produce these delicious white wines in Bordeaux. Most are made with a combination of Sémillon, Sauvignon, and Muscadelle grapes.
When tasting these wines alone I found them to be a tad sweet for my taste. However, when paired with spicy and savory snacks they were perfect! I could totally see myself pairing these wines with savory snacks for holiday dinner parties or on New Year’s Eve. We paired the wines with vegetable chips, jalapeno chicken chips, beef jerky, and spicy salami.
For the holidays I thought of a few fun savory dishes that would be perfect paired with these Golden Bordeaux Wines. One dish that everyone loves at a party that would go great with these sweet wines is Buffalo Chicken Dip. The spiciness of the chicken with the sweet Golden Bordeaux would be perfect. Another great appetizer would be my Mini Hot Wings and Waffle appetizer would be delicious with a Chateau Lapinesse Bordeaux.
Going with more savory then spicy a Goat Cheese Crostini with citrus jam would be a lovely pairing with a Chateau Loupiac-Gaudiet. If you are looking for more of a grab and go snack for a holiday party pair these wines with Smokey Spiced Nuts. No matter which Golden Bordeaux you choose, pair it with a spicy or savory snack and you’ll be a hit at an holiday party.
I was given a selection of Golden Bordeaux Wines to try but all opinions are 100% my own.
