Today is my first day back to work after spending 16 weeks at home with my baby. One of the things I’ve been worried about is how I will have enough time to spend time with my son and have dinner with my husband once I get home from work. It’s also been really hard to have a date night in the last 4 months since we don’t live near any family and don’t want to leave our baby with someone we don’t know.
One thing that I’ve found helpful is buying prepared foods at the market. It’s so much easier to spend quality time with my husband when we don’t have to spend an hour making dinner and entertaining the baby. I love that I can stop at my local Martin’s Food Markets on the way home from work and pick up a deli meal combo for myself and my husband.
They have a great selection to choose from. For each combo I get to choose one entree, one 20 oz. Coca-Cola™ beverage, and one side item! I’ve been picking up a Chicken Caesar wrap, 2 oz. bag of Sour Cream and Onion Deep River chips, and a 20 oz. Diet Coke® for myself and a whole sub, 2 oz. bag of Bar-B-Que Deep River chips, and a 20 oz. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar™ for my husband. It takes 5 minutes to run in Martin’s Food Markets and grab this food. Then we have dinner ready to go and clean up is a snap! This helps me spend more quality time with my husband at night.
So what else have I learned to do to have a date night with my husband? I’m going to share my Tips for Having Date Night when you have a baby:
- Have Your Husband Set the Table While You Put the Baby to Bed.
This is an easy one. We have our normal bedtime routine with the baby so while I’m getting him to sleep my husband gets the table set with plates, napkins, silverware, and the food.
2. Eat by Candlelight
This is something that takes everyday dinner to something special. We simply grab a few candles that we have laying around the house, put them in the middle of our table, and light them before we eat.
3. Buy Prepared Food
Don’t spend an hour in the kitchen getting a meal ready or you’ll be tired when it’s time to have your date night. Instead, pick up a deli combo meal like the one’s I picked up at Martin’s Food Markets. Because each combo comes with one entree, one 20 oz. Coca-Cola beverage, and one side item I don’t have to worry about anything!
4. Turn on Music
Again, this is something really small but it takes dinner to a whole new level. My husband has a turntable in the living room and likes to put on a record when we are enjoying a quiet dinner by ourselves.
5. Enjoy a Beverage in Front of the Fire
After eating making sure you have another activity. We like to curl up in front of the fireplace and sip on a beverage. In this case we simply take the rest of our Diet Coke and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and relax in front of the fire. Sometimes we listen to music, sometimes we just chat, and other times we catch up on our favorite TV shows.
