Fall is here!ย  Fall is here!ย ย  That means I’ll be baking with all the apples and pumpkins over the next few months.ย  Fall is totally my favorite food season.

Some of my favorite fall apple recipes include Apple Cider Donuts and Apple Puff Pastry Turnovers.ย  For fall pumpkin recipes you can’t beat my Pumpkin Coffee Cake for breakfast or my Pumpkin Mac n Cheese for dinner.

Sometimes when I’m looking through food pictures there one that stops me and I just know I have to make it.ย ย  That’s what happened with this caramel apple dump cake.ย ย  As soon as I saw it I put the ingredients on my grocery list because I knew I was making it.

The best part was that there were only a handful of ingredients and it’s a dump style cake so everything gets put into the dish it’s being baked in and there’s no mixing required.ย ย  This means less mess to clean up and a super easy dessert!

I have a few dump cake recipes that I already love but I thought I needed a new one.ย  My Pumpkin Pie Dump Cake is perfect in the fall with all those spices.ย  In the summer this 3 Ingredient Pineapple Dump Cake can’t be beat.ย

Ingredients:

  • apple pie filling
  • apples
  • caramel sauce
  • white cake mix
  • apple pie spice
  • butter
  • vanilla extract

To Make the Cake:ย  Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.ย  Spray a 9 x 13 baking dish.ย ย  Place the apple pie filling and chopped apple in the bottom of the pan.ย  Spread caramel sauce over top.ย ย  Pour the white cake mix on top of the apples and sprinkle with apple pie spice.ย ย  Melt the butter, mix with the vanilla, and pour over top of the cake mix.ย  Bake for 50 minutes.

This cake was seriously easy to make.ย ย  I put it together right before giving my son his bath and popped it into the oven.ย  By the time bath and bedtime routine was over I was pulling this cake out of the oven.

I loved that this cake made my entire house smell like fall.ย  You could smell the apples, cake, and spices baking in the oven and I really felt like fall had arrived.

Can I use other cake flavors?

You can certainly use other cake flavors.ย  Yellow cake or spice cake would be great in place of the white cake in this recipe.

Do I have to use fresh apples?

No you don’t.ย  I actually only used fresh apples in this recipe because I had so many sitting on the counter and wanted to use them in a dessert. I knew they would bake well in this cake so I used them.ย  If you don’t want to use fresh apples just use 2 cans of apple pie filling.

I don’t have apple pie spice, what can I use?

You can make your own!ย  It’s 2 tablespoons of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon of allspice, and 1/2 teaspoon of cardamom.ย ย  If you don’t have all those ingredients you can just use cinnamon and nutmeg in this recipe and it still will taste amazing.

Can I just make an apple pie dump cake?

You certainly can.ย  If you aren’t a huge fan of caramel or you have all of the ingredients except the caramel don’t worry.ย  You can make this cake as written and just leave out the caramel sauce.ย  It will still turn out just fine.

I couldn’t wait to dig into the caramel apple dump cake.ย  One thing about dump cakes is that there is no slicing.ย ย  You just grab a spoon and dig in!

I really wanted to have a piece with ice cream on top but we were out.ย  So I went for second best and topped mine with whipped cream and more caramel sauce.

More Caramel Apple Recipes:

The cake was amazing!ย ย  It was sweet, had plenty of caramel in it, and the apples were baked and tender.ย  It’s really a cross between apple cobbler, apple pie, and a cake.

The cake mix forms a nice thick topping on top of the gooey caramel apples.ย ย  The apple pie spice really came out in the apples as well.

While the whipped cream was a nice touch on top I’m definitely going to try it topped with vanilla ice cream next time.ย
