Cheese Straws

Serves: 24 cheese straws
Crunchy cheddar cheese straws spiced up with a little cayenne pepper.
  • 1 lb. cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 t. salt
  • ½ t. cayenne pepper
  • ½ t. dry mustard
  • ½ t. black pepper
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl combine the flour, salt, cayenne pepper, dry mustard, and black pepper.
  3. Add the melted butter and use your hands to form a dough ball. Mix in the cheddar cheese. Add ice water 1 tablespoon at a time until a firm dough forms.
  4. Roll the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. Remove dough from refrigerator and roll to ¼ inch thickness. Cut into ½ inch wide strips. Twist the dough strips and place on greased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
