Make your favorite burgers this Halloween and top them with yellow American cheese cut out to look like Jack-o-lanterns for a quick and fun dinner before trick or treating.
For the last 3 years we’ve had Jack-o-lantern pepperoni pizza for dinner on Halloween. It’s been our tradition and it’s a fun one since my son loves pizza.
I like to make something quick before we go out trick or treating and I want it to be semi-decent since I know we will all be eating candy later on in the night.ย While I’ll still make a pizza this year I’ve been thinking about making something a little more substanstial to go along with it.
So when I saw these fun Halloween Jack-o-lantern burgers in a Food Network magazine I was ready to go!ย I like how easy they are to make and that you can use any burger recipe to go along with them.
Ingredients:
- ground beef
- salt
- pepper
- Worcestershire sauce
- garlic cloves
- American cheese
- buns
- Heat a gas grill to medium high heat.
- Using a sharp knife cut jack-o-lantern faces out of the slices of cheese.ย Set aside.
- To make the burgers combine the ground beef, salt, pepper, Worcestersire sauce, and garlic cloves in a bowl.
- Mix gently to combine.ย Do not over mix the burger.
- Shape into 5 burgers.
- Place on the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side or until the internal temperature reads around 130 degrees.
- Put the jack-o-lantern cheese on top and cook for 1-2 more minutes.
- Remove from the grill and serve on buns with your favorite toppings.
The fun thing about this recipe is that kids can get involved.ย ย Hand each kid a few pieces of cheese and some type of knife and let them cut out their own jack-o-lantern shape to top their burger!
I made all the faces myself and I still had fun.ย My 4 year old thought it was really cool when he figured out what it was that I was making.ย He then wanted to know how it was going to make a pumpkin on the burger.
Can I use pre-made burger patties from the market?
Yes!ย Grab pre-made burger patties at the market and use them along with a slice of cheese and enjoy!ย You can also use your favorite burger recipe.
Can I use a different kind of cheese?
Sure!ย Make sure you use a yellow or orange cheese so that it still looks like a jack-o-lantern and make sure it’s a cheese that melts well.ย Cheddar is a good substitute if you don’t like American cheese.
Is there something I can use as a stem on top of the jack-o-lantern?
A piece of green bell pepper is an easy and edible way to make a stem on top of the pumpkin.ย You could also cut a piece of lettuce and put it on top.
Can I make any other Halloween topped burgers?
Use a slice of white American cheese or white Swiss cheese and cut out a ghost with two eye holes in the top for another fun Halloween shape.
These were really easy to make.ย ย I simply put together the burger mixture and cooked them on the grill as normal.ย ย During the last minute or two I added the cheese and that was it!
They looked super cute and I was excited to eat them.ย We love cheeseburgers in this house and this was such a fun way to decorate them for Halloween.
