During the holiday seasons I am always running around like crazy trying to buy gifts for my family and friends. Often the holidays become a season of greed with everyone spending a lot of money trying to get others the best present. Most people also hope to receive great presents as well. This year, why not send an awesome gift that gives back? The 2014 World Vision Gift Catalog offers gifts for everyone on your list that also help those in poverty.
There are more than 250 items, available in a variety of price ranges, available online and in the print catalog to help improve quality of life for women, children and families in the U.S. and around the world. You can receive handcrafted gifts that are perfect for holiday baking or entertaining and also give to those that are most in need.
Some of my favorite products from this collection include:
Prosperity Cinnamon: Know a friend or family member who loves to bake? Each beautifully-carved cinnamon bark box contains 3 oz. of cinnamon and bears a common Asian character for prosperity. Vietnam’s renowned sweet cinnamon is a renewable resource collected from the Cassia tree, sold to benefit generations of hard-working families. $85
Hand-Carved Serving Spoons: A perfect gift for holiday entertaining, each beautiful set of two hand-carved olivewood serving spoons is delivered in a gift bag of African fabric hand-sewn by local women. The serving spoons are made to benefit orphans of the Kamba tribe in Kenya. $65
Fair-Trade Coffee Set: For the coffee lover, this 12 oz. coffee set is blended by OneCup.org, using delicious flavors from Ethiopia, Sumatra, and Costa Rica, and is delivered in a gift bag of African fabric hand-sewn by local women. $65
I received the fair trade coffee set and have to say it is a pretty cool gift. The coffee is a delicious blend of fair trade coffee that is great for breakfast or dessert. The set comes with a gorgeous hand-carved olivewood scoop. All of the items are placed in an African bag that is hand sewn by local women. The bag is beautiful and brightly colored. I’m sure anyone would be happy to receive this gift at the holidays. Plus, you get the added benefit of knowing that you are helping someone in need.

I think one of the coolest gifts you can give a loved one is a $50 donation “Where Most Needed” for girls and women. Most of us in the Western World have everything we need already. Helping others as a “gift” to someone you love would reverberate all over the world.

That silver cuff is beautiful, although it most likely wouldn’t fit my tiny wrists. I love the scarves and hand carved serving spoons too. I actually do this every year with World Vision. I buy chickens or food or something and donate the money in someone’s name. Usually my dad and step-mom because they are way difficult to buy for and honestly don’t need anything. I’ve never gotten the gifts though. I just leave the money with World Vision. Great program. I wish they would extend the places in the US that you can give to though. I would like more choices. There are a lot of suffering people here too.
