I wanted to have a tea party for my book club brunch.  We were having it at 11 in the morning on our last day of school and I thought a tea party would be fun. Unfortunately it was going to be around 85 degrees so I wasn’t sure anyone was going to want a cup of hot tea.  I did think that maybe people would enjoy a cool glass of iced tea or a glass of lemonade.

Of course I didn’t just want to serve iced tea and lemonade.  That’s a little boring for a tea party.  When I think of tea parties I think of tea with cream, sugars, honey, and lemon or lime.   Several times on cruises my family and I have attended tea parties and they are always so fancy.  We would dress in our “good” clothes and head down to the tea room.  We were served piping hot cups of tea with a variety of sweeteners, lemon, and cream or honey if we wanted.  It always felt so fancy.   We were also served many tiny sandwiches and desserts.

I wanted to create a lemonade and iced tea bar.  I thought it would be fun to have a variety of sweeteners, fruits, and herbs to put in our beverages.  Something to make them a little more sophisticated then simply pouring a beverage into a glass.   I had several ideas and when I was finished I had a lot of things to add to the beverages.

To make it a bit fancy and fun I even got out our crystal beverage glasses.  I rarely take them out because they are heavy and fancy but I thought now we be the perfect time.   Before my guests arrives I put down a table runner and then put my crystal glasses on one side, the lemonade, iced tea, and water in the middle, and the add-ins on the end.   It turned out to be a great idea and my friends had a lot of fun trying different combinations of sweeteners and fruits in their tea, lemonade, and water.  Plus, it was such an easy way to have them help themselves to the beverages throughout our tea party.

Fresh fruits, mint from the garden, and sweeteners add a little bit of fun to an iced tea and lemonade bar.

Ingredients

  • 1 gallon unsweetened iced tea
  • 1 gallon lemonade
  • 1 gallon water
  • 1/2 c. mixed berries, chopped
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • Mint leaves, left whole
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • Combination of sweeteners (I used Equal and Sweet 'n Low)
  • Stevia
  • Honey

Instructions

  1. Place the iced tea, lemonade, and water into pitchers and set them on a table.
  2. Lay out 8 shallow bowls or saucers. Place the berries in one, the lemon in another, the lime in a third, and the orange in a fourth.
  3. Then place the mint leaves in a bowl, the sugar in a bowl (or leave the sugar in a sugar bowl), the stevia in one bowl, and the sweeteners in the last bowl. Place the honey next to the other sweeteners.
  4. Place ice in an ice bucket and invite guests to serve themselves at the iced tea and lemonade bar.
