Can you believe it’s already time for a Back to School week?   This week we are sharing our favorite Back to School Treats.  Since today is my birthday and I am a teacher I thought that it was appropriate that the first recipe I share be for parents or teachers.  After all, I am going back to school myself and I think I deserve a little treat as well!

Cool off with this refreshing Iced Salted Caramel Latte

The thing that gets me at the beginning of every school year is getting ready early in the morning.  I don’t mind getting up early as we are up by 6:30 on a daily basis thanks to J.  Of course before J came along our summer wake up time was before 7 so we are definitely early birds.   My problem is that in the summer I can stay in my pajamas until 8:30 or 9 until I need to get dressed.  It’s so nice to lounge around but it makes getting up and getting ready at the beginning of the school year tough.

That’s why I decided that my Back to School treat would be coffee related.  I definitely need my morning cup of coffee to get me moving in the morning but I wanted to make something that would get me motivated as well.  In the winter I make myself caramel lattes a lot but since it’s the end of summer and it’s hot I made an Iced Salted Caramel Latte.

It only takes a few ingredients to make Iced Salted Caramel Latte

I first made this a few weeks ago when my husband and I were dragging and it was 85 degrees outside with a heat index of 97.   We needed something to keep us going but we didn’t want anything that was hot because of the temperature.  I went in the kitchen, looked in the cupboards, and in a few minutes we each had a glass of Iced Salted Caramel Lattes.

The base of the latte is simply cold milk and either strong brewed coffee or espresso.  I added flavor by using Torani Salted Caramel Syrup .  Then, because I was making myself a treat, I topped the latte off with whipped cream, a drizzle of Torani Caramel Sauce, and a sprinkle of sea salt.  The resulting beverage was pure bliss in a glass.

I can't get enough of this Iced Salted Caramel Latte

This beverage is slightly sweet, has a great salted caramel flavor, and is served on ice.   We liked it so much that I’ve been making it several times a week since we tried it!  I know I’ll be ready to go back to school as long as I have one of these Iced Salted Caramel Lattes in the morning before I leave for work.

Iced Salted Caramel Latte

Yield: serves 1
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Iced milk sweetened with salted caramel syrup mixed with a shot of espresso then topped off with whipped cream, a caramel drizzle, and a touch of sea salt.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons Torani Salted Caramel syrup
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 2 shots of espresso OR 2 ounces of strong brewed coffee
  • ice
  • whipped cream
  • Torani Caramel Sauce
  • sea salt

Instructions

  1. Fill a glass with ice. Add the salted caramel syrup and milk and stir. Set aside.
  2. Make the espresso or strong brewed coffee in a large mug.
  3. Pour the iced milk into the cup with the coffee or espresso (this will keep the glass from cracking due to the hot and cold liquids meeting). Give it a stir then pour the entire thing back into the glass.
  4. Top with whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel sauce, and a sprinkle of sea salt.
  5. Add a straw and enjoy!
