Whenever I think of a party I think of good food, good friends, and good beverages.   While many people think that party drinks need to be alcoholic that isn’t the case.

I also don’t think that non-alcoholic party or celebration drinks need to be boring.  Sure soda, tea, and water can be available at all times but why not offer guests who aren’t drinking alcohol something fun to drink?

That’s where mocktails come in.  Mocktails come in all shapes and sizes and can have a variety of ingredients in them.  Today I’m sharing a Valentine’s Day Mocktail recipe that’s great for kids and adults.

What is a mocktail?

A mocktail is a non-alcoholic beverage designed to mimic the flavors and presentation of traditional cocktails, but without the alcohol. Mocktails are often created by combining various fruit juices, soda, herbs, and other non-alcoholic ingredients to achieve a refreshing and flavorful drink.

This is a fruity mocktail using berry juice.   You can use any berry or cherry flavored juice in this mocktail to achieve the beautiful red color.  Fruit punch can even be used!

A jug of berry juice, a bottle of grenadine, a bottle of sprinkles, and a can of ginger ale.

Ingredients:

Making this mocktail is super easy.   Before you make the actual drink you will want to get your glass prepared.

What type of glass should I use for my mocktail?

I like to use a lowball glass for mocktails. It is a short glass with a wide mouth that holds a decent amount of beverage.  They are great for adults or kids.  You can also use a highball glass but I don’t think it looks as good with this Valentine’s Day mocktail.

To start use a wedge of lemon or lime and run it around the edge of your glasses.   Roll the glass around in a shallow dish with sprinkles on it.

I used heavier sprinkles for my glasses so I chose to rim my glasses with honey so that they would stick better.  You can also use corn syrup for this.

Next, combine the berry juice, grenadine, and lemon lime soda in a large pitcher and mix to combine.

Add ice to the sprinkle rimmed glasses and pour the mocktail over top of the ice.  Serve with fun holiday paper straws.

Can I make the mocktail ahead of time?

You can but it only takes a few minutes to make.  If you are making it for a party then I would rim all of the glasses with the sprinkles or sanding sugar ahead of time.  When you are ready to make the cocktail simply combine the ingredients in a pitcher and stir.  Set a container of ice and the pitcher of mocktails next to the sprinkle rimmed glasses and let guests serve themselves.

What can I serve with my Valentine’s Day Mocktail?

There are so many delicious sweet treats to serve with this mocktail. Rich, chocolate Red Velvet Brownies are always a Valentine’s Day favorite.  For an easy sweet try my Valentine’s Day Double Fudge recipe.  Add a fruity dessert to your menu with these fun Cherry Cupcakes!
