Let’s be honest…there’s nothing like a steaming cup of hot cocoa on a cold day.   I love making homemade hot cocoa especially when I have a batch of my homemade marshmallows as well.  The sweet, rich, and creamy taste of hot chocolate warms me from the inside out.  I could just curl up in my pajamas on the couch with a steaming mug and read a book all day long.

However, sometimes it’s fun to make a hot beverage with some surprising ingredients.   In the past I’ve made S’mores Hot Chocolate which is just over the top amazing and perfect for sharing with kids and I’ve made Spiked White Chocolate Peppermint Hot Chocolate which is great for enjoying with my friends.  But what I have for you today is totally different then anything I’ve made before.  Today I’m sharing Unicorn Hot Chocolate.

Are you side eyeing me right now?   I wouldn’t blame you.  I’m actually not into the whole “unicorn” food.  I think it usually looks like a rainbow disaster and it’s not for me.   But when I saw this colorful Unicorn Hot Chocolate I was totally sold.  It’s basically just a sweet white hot chocolate that is colored pink.

The toppings are where it begins to get extreme.   I started with whipped cream because whipped cream is good with so many hot beverages.   Then I sprinkled colorful marshmallows on top.  You can go with your favorite flavor of marshmallow instead but I chose the pastel marshmallows.  I finished with a blue icing drizzle on top of the entire thing.

You can easily use store bought blue frosting but I thought that would be too thick.   I whipped up a small batch of blue royal icing which was thinner and easy to drizzle.   Don’t forget about brightly colored sprinkles around the rim of the mug too!   I ended up using neon dinosaur sprinkles because I had them in the cupboard and I thought they were really funny with the Unicorn Hot Chocolate.

So how does it taste?   The cocoa itself is good.  It’s a little on the sweet side but it’s a good white hot chocolate.   The whipped cream, marshmallows, and icing add a lot of sweetness.   Kids would go nuts over this drink.   I ended up taking off some of the icing and marshmallows before drinking it and I ended up really enjoying it myself.  Plus, I laughed pretty much the entire time I was drinking it because of how ridiculous it was.
