Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.
In a large bowl cream together the butter and sugar.
Add in the eggs and mix well.
Stir in the blood orange zest and set aside.
In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a small bowl combine 2 tablespoons of blood orange juice, the milk, and the vanilla.
Add half of the flour mixture and milk mixture to the butter and sugar mixture and mix until well combined.
Add the remaining flour and milk mixture to the butter mix and mix until combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Cut a blood orange in half. Thinly slice the orange and lay the slices on top of the cake.
Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove the cake from the oven and cool completely on a wire rack.
To make the glaze combine the powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons of blood orange juice and whisk until smooth.
Pour the glaze over top of the cake and let harden for 15 minutes.
