Apple Cider Donuts with Pecan Sugar Topping

Baked Apple Cider Donuts topped with a spiced pecan sugar are the perfect fall breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons apple pie spice
  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. apple cider
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/3 c. applesauce
  • 1 apple grated
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 1/3 c. pecans

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Spray a donut pan with cooking spray.
  • In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and apple pie spice. Set aside.
  • In another medium bowl cream together the butter and sugar.
  • Add in the eggs and vanilla and mix well.
  • Stir in the apple cider and applesauce.
  • Add the butter and sugar mixture to the flour mixture and mix until combined.
  • Fold in the apples.
  • Place the donut batter in a zip top baggie or piping bag and cut off the tip.
  • Pipe into the donut pan.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes or until donuts are baked through.
  • Remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes before removing to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  • Meanwhile place the sugar, apple pie spice, and pecans in a food processor and process until crumbly.
  • Melt the butter in a shallow bowl.
  • Dip the top of the donuts into the butter and then press into the pecan sugar mixture.
  • Return the donuts to the wire cooling rack to let the excess sugar fall off.
  • Enjoy!
