Ingredients

For the dry mix:

  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For making one serving of the biscuits:

  • 4 Tablespoons cold butter
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl combine all the ingredients for the dry mix. Mix well and pour into a quart sized mason jar.
  • When ready to make the biscuits preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
  • Remove 1 1/2 cups mix from the jar and place in a mixing bowl.
  • Cut the butter into pieces and mix with your fingers until the mixture resembles wet, coarse sand.
  • Add the milk and mix until combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead a few times, and roll to 1/2 inch thick. Use a 2 inch biscuit cutter and cut out biscuits. You may need to put the dough scraps together again and roll out again to make 10 biscuits.
  • Place the biscuits on a cookie sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.
