To make the simple syrup put all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium high heat.
Bring to a boil and boil hard for 5 minutes or until the cranberries have burst open.
Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve and save the liquid. You can discard the solids.
To make the sangria pour the red wine, orange liqueur, cranberry juice, lime juice, and simple syrup in a large conatiner. Add the fruit and cinnamon sticks. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
To serve fill glasses with ice and pour in the sangria. Garnish with orange slices, fresh cranberries, and cinnamon sticks.
You can also leave out the simple syrup if guests want to add more to their sangria.
