Caramelized Pear Bread

Sweet caramelized pears and lots of spices make this Caramelized Pear Quick Bread a family favorite!

Ingredients

For the Streusel:

  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 Tablespoons butter

For the bread:

  • 2 large pears I used Butterscotch Pears
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
  • 2 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 c. 1 stick butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 c. milk

Instructions

  • To make the streusel combine the flour, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and salt together in a bowl.
  • Add in the butter and mix until a crumble forms. Set aside.
  • Cut the pears removing the core. Cut into 1/2 inch cubes.
  • In a medium skillet heat the butter and brown sugar over medium heat.
  • Add the pears to the skillet and cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring frequently.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla paste. Let cool for 5 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl combine the butter and eggs. MIx well to combine.
  • Add in the pear mixture and mix until just combined.
  • Add the flour mixture to the pear mixture and mix until it starts combining. Stir in the milk and mix until the batter just comes together.
  • Pour the batter into the loaf pan and sprinkle the top with all of the streusel.
  • Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
  • Cool on a baking rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing and serving.
