Greek Style Hummus Burger

Equipment

Ingredients

For the burgers:

  • 1 1/4 pounds ground beef I used 85% lean
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup hummus any flavor
  • 1/3 cup feta cheese
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • salt and pepper to taste

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber peeled and minced
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano

For assembling the burgers:

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • sliced tomatoes
  • sliced red onion
  • Feta cheese

Instructions

  • Heat a gas grill to medium high heat.
  • Combine all of the burger ingredients in a bowl and mix with your hands until well combined. Divide the burger mixture into 4 balls and shape into burgers. Set aside.
  • Combine all the ingredients for the Tzatziki sauce in a medium bowl. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
  • Cook the burgers on the grill for 4-5 minutes per side or until they are cooked through. Place the buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes to toast them.
  • To assemble the burgers place them on a bun and top with lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and additional feta cheese. Spoon the Tzatziki sauce on top and enjoy.
