Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Spread black beans on a baking sheet and bake for 6-8 minutes or until they begin to split open.
Meanwhile, cook the walnuts, cumin, paprika, and chili powder in a medium skilled over medium heat for 2-3 minutes or until they are fragrant.
Remove from pan and cool.
In the same skillet heat the oil from the sun dried tomatoes over medium heat. Add the carrot, shallow, sun dried tomatoes, and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes.
Place the carrot mixture, beans, walnut mixture, oats, and soy sauce in a food processor. Pulse until combined.
Shape the mixture into 4 burger patties.
Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet. Add the bean patties and cook for 3-5 minutes per side or until browned. Baste with BBQ sauce if desired.
Serve on buns with choice of toppings.
