Buffalo Wing Hummus #SundaySupper

This week #SundaySupper is all about tailgating!  I was super excited for this post because football season is now in full swing and I've been watching my fabulous Pittsburgh Steelers every Sunday.  My husband likes to watch the Baltimore Ravens (Boo Baltimore!  as my dad would say) but during the Sunday games we love having tailgating food right in our own home.

There are so many appetizers and dips I want to make during football season this year so it was hard to narrow it down to just one.  We've been eating healthier over the past few months though so in the end this amazing buffalo hummus is what I ended up making.

This hummus is delicious.  It's made with healthy ingredients and is full of flavor.  I love regular hummus but I hate the price I have to pay for it.  While I enjoy making my own, I don't like to price of tahini either.  Luckily the market I go to had tahini half off this week and I had all the other ingredients in my pantry so this was a cheap appetizer to make for the game.

The hummus is a little thicker then what I normally buy at the market but I like it better that way.  It is full of flavor and has a nice kick to it.  I served it with both pita chips and celery and both were gone within a few minutes.  It would also be a perfect starter when serving wings for a game.  I have a feeling I'll be making this dish a lot this football season!

Buffalo Hummus (adapted from Prevention RD)
2 cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 c. tahini
1/4 c. lemon juice
2 t. paprika
1 t. salt
1 t. black pepper
5 T. Frank's red hot (or other calorie-free wing sauce)
1 T. white vinegar
1 T. fresh parsley, chopped
1-2 t. olive oil

1.  Place all the ingredients except the olive oil in a food processor.  Process until smooth and creamy.

2.  Add a few drops of olive oil at a time, processing in between each addition, until the hummus is at your desired consistency.

3.  Refrigerate until ready to serve.  Serve with celery sticks and pita chips.

  11. Hummus is so much better when you make it yourself. The store bought version doesn't do the healthy dip justice. This looks so good, and I can't wait to try it. Happy #SundaySupper!

  42. I'm going to try and make this over the weekend, where can I find Tahini?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I find it in the grocery store usually in the specialty foods section. If you can't find it you can always substitute in 2-3 tablespoons of sesame oil instead. My brother made it last weekend and said he didn't use tahini at all and just added more garlic and lemon.
