This week Sunday Supper is all about tailgating! I was super excited for this post because football season is now in full swing and I’ve been watching my fabulous Pittsburgh Steelers every Sunday. My husband likes to watch the Baltimore Ravens (Boo Baltimore! as my dad would say) but during the Sunday games we love having tailgating food right in our own home.
There are so many appetizers and dips I want to make during football season this year so it was hard to narrow it down to just one. We’ve been eating healthier over the past few months though so in the end this amazing buffalo hummus is what I ended up making.
This hummus is delicious. It’s made with healthy ingredients and is full of flavor. I love regular hummus but I hate the price I have to pay for it. While I enjoy making my own, I don’t like to price of tahini either. Luckily the market I go to had tahini half off this week and I had all the other ingredients in my pantry so this was a cheap appetizer to make for the game.
The hummus is a little thicker then what I normally buy at the market but I like it better that way. It is full of flavor and has a nice kick to it. I served it with both pita chips and celery and both were gone within a few minutes. It would also be a perfect starter when serving wings for a game. I have a feeling I’ll be making this dish a lot this football season!
Buffalo Hummus (adapted from Prevention RD)
2 cans chickpeas, drained and rinsed
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 c. tahini
1/4 c. lemon juice
2 t. paprika
1 t. salt
1 t. black pepper
5 T. Frank’s red hot (or other calorie-free wing sauce)
1 T. white vinegar
1 T. fresh parsley, chopped
1-2 t. olive oil
1. Place all the ingredients except the olive oil in a food processor. Process until smooth and creamy.
2. Add a few drops of olive oil at a time, processing in between each addition, until the hummus is at your desired consistency.
3. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with celery sticks and pita chips.

Oh great!! I have that!! I want to make it this weekend! Thank you!
I’m going to try and make this over the weekend, where can I find Tahini?

Oh I love hummus and your’s look so so tasty! The spicy flavors just suit my taste perfectly and I cannot wait to try this 🙂
Brilliant! I love hearing about new ways to flavor hummus. My problem with making my own is figuring out what to do with the rest of the giant jar of tahini.
You are my new best friend!! Go steelers!! And I love the idea of pairing buffalo wing idea with hummus.
Sorry- BOO PITTSBURGH! 😛
This hummus looks amazing, though. Perhaps I’ll make some as I cheer on the black and orange, who dey. 🙂
Hummus is our new snack, I’ll try this one since we all love Frank’s Hot sauce!
I have to try this spicy hummus SOON! Looks SO good! I like a thicker hummus too. 🙂
Yum…hummus! So healthy and delicious! I love the spicy twist you gave to your version. Homemade hummus is the way to go – I’ve bought pre-packaged stuff and it always tastes terrible!
Loving the hummus recipes this week. I am new to liking hummus, and this flavor will definitely be made this year here. Sounds amazing!
This is such a great way to jazz up everyday hummus. And it’s healthy too!
Definitely putting this on my “to-make” list for dips. We love hummus and love Frank’s RedHot, so I’m sure this will be a huge hit in my house!
Omigosh what a perfect way to mix yummy & healthy! We love the flavor of buffalo wing sauce and I always keep it on hand just in case a tasty recipe like this one pops into my sight! Can’t wait to try this!! Thanks for sharing it!!

We love all types of humus and to find tahini at half price that’s just amazing!!!
We are a hummus family 🙂 I will have to try your version of it.
I love Hummus and Buffalo Wings, the hubs will be happy too 🙂 looks great!
I adore hummus! I want to eat all of this! YUM!
Hummus is so much better when you make it yourself. The store bought version doesn’t do the healthy dip justice. This looks so good, and I can’t wait to try it. Happy #SundaySupper!
A delicious and healthy option!! Love it!
What a cool twist on hummus. I think next weekend I will be giving this a try.
Sounds yummy, Heather!
Now this is the kind of Hummus I could get my husband to eat! WOW…..I can’t believe I’m already this hungry at 8:30 in the morning! Thanks for sharing!
