With the 4th of July coming up I’ve been experimenting with red, white, and blue foods.   In addition to red, white, and blue foods, I needed something cool and refreshing to drink.  I’ve been on a huge sangria kick lately (Triple Berry Moscato Sangria and Citrus Moscato Sangria being two recent favorites) so I decided to try my hand at a festive one for the holiday.  I also thought it would be great to bring to this week’s Sunday Supper picnic event!

Red, White, and Blue Sangria is a fun and patriotic beverage!

I used strawberries for the red, blueberries for the blue, and a Pinot Grigio for the white.  It worked out well as the blueberries sank to the bottom while the strawberries floated on top making a clear red, white, and blue beverage.  The taste was fruity and slightly sweet and since it was chilled it was perfect for sipping at a summer BBQ.  I stuck these fun Red and White Striped Straws in the sangria for us to drink from.

Ingredients
  • 1 (750mL) bottle of Pinot Grigio ( I like Gallo Family Vineyards)
  • 1 c. strawberries, halved and sliced
  • 1 c. fresh blueberries
  • ¼ c. fresh lime juice
  • ½ c. orange liqueur
  • 1 c. berry flavored seltzer water
Instructions
  1. In a large pitcher combine the Pinot Grigio, strawberries, blueberries, lime juice, and orange liqueur. Stir well and refrigerate for about 4 hours.
  2. When ready to serve add the berry seltzer to the pitcher. Pour over ice and garnish with additional berries.

Sangria is the best summer drink! How cool that you were really able to separate the colors — every time I try to do that everything just blends right in together! =(

Very festive! I’m a little surprised the strawberries didn’t sink along with the blueberries but glad they didn’t because it makes for a cleaner presentation.

I’m surprised they didn’t sink either but it made a really pretty drink.

I’m not sure if it’s kind of new, or just new to me, but I’m loving fruit chunks actually in the drinks. They look good and I’m sure they add a wonderful flavor burst as well.
