There is nothing quite like a fresh pot of marinara sauce.   I love pasta and pizza and while I’ll put store bought sauce on them in a pinch, it’s totally worth it to make my own sauce.

Buttery Tomato Sauce

The sauce recipe that caught my eye was the Buttery Tomato Sauce with Onion.   There are just 4 ingredients other then salt and pepper and it’s super easy to make.   It also has a lot of flavor and is great on pasta or as a sauce on a pizza.  I made the sauce this past Sunday to put on a pizza for dinner.  The entire kitchen smelled wonderful as it was simmering on the stove.  It made the whole house warm and cozy.

Buttery Tomato Sauce with just 4 simple ingredients

I did make one change to the recipe.   Instead of removing the onions at the end of the cooking time, I diced one of the onions and left it in the sauce.  I think it added a little more flavor to the sauce.  This recipe makes a lot of sauce so I froze the sauce I didn’t use to put on my meatballs this weekend!  This is seriously the easiest tomato sauce you are ever going to make and you’ll be surprised by just how flavorful it is.

Buttery Tomato Sauce is great on past or pizzas!

I make my Grandfather’s recipe for Italian Sauce every two weeks and I only use Tuttorosso Tomatoes! I load mine up with meat and Italian Sausage, freeze it in containers and have it whenever we feel like pasta or any other Italian dish! And did you know that if you use a metal spoon to stir your sauce in a metal pot, you will actually taste the metal in your sauce? Wood is the best!! Thanks for this opportunity!

  4. If I won, I would probably try out this recipe! I have never made homemade sauce before. But, yours looks really good. I always thought you had to have a food processor or something to make tomato sauces, as I don’t want it to be chunky. But we buy a lot of pizza sauce and marinara sauce, so I wonder if it would help us save a little money?! And I bet if I could figure out how to can it, it would last even longer, though I know you said you could just freeze it. Good idea either way!

    1. This is a super easy recipe especially since it has so few ingredients! Plus it makes a ton. I froze half the batch and used it about 2 weeks later. Sometimes after freezign I need to add a small can of tomato paste to thicken it back up but that’s it!

  5. This time of year our crock pot is working overtime making warm chilis and stews. This would be great for all of those.
