Tomorrow is Halloween!   I love getting dressed up for Halloween and passing out candy to all the kids in the neighborhood.   In our old neighborhood we were lucky to get 5 trick or treaters but at our house now we get around 300 kids!   It makes for a crazy and fun night.

I think the biggest question for the day after Halloween is what to do with all that candy.   If you are looking for ideas on what to do with the candy Sunday Supper is here to save you!   This week we are sharing recipes using leftover candy so you can take those leftovers and transform them into something totally different!

Leftover Candy Brownies

While my candy wasn’t exactly leftover from Halloween it was leftover from the treat bags I made for my students at school for Halloween.   I had a bag of M&M’s, a few Milky Way bars, a few Twix, some candy corn, and a handful of chocolate and caramel candy.   Does it seem like there is a theme here?   That’s because there is.  I love chocolate and caramel candy so that’s what I bought for my students.

Since most of my candy was chocolate and caramel I knew I wanted to make a chocolate dessert.    When I think of chocolate desserts the one that stands out in my mind are chocolate brownies.  My homemade brownies are always a huge hit and thinking about putting chocolate and caramel candy inside of the brownies made my mouth water.

So I set about chopping up the candy for my Leftover Candy Brownies.   I made my classic brownie recipe with a few simple changes.  I put in a lot less sugar since I knew I was going to adding in the candy.  I also upped the amount of flour to balance out the melted chocolate going into the brownies.  I wanted to make sure that the brownies were going to be fudgy but also firm enough to be able to cut.

I whipped up my brownie batter and it looked a little thick which was good since I knew the chocolate candy melting would thin it out.  I added in the chopped candies and put everything in the oven.  The brownies puffed up pretty high in the oven but when I took them out the middle fell.   I was a little upset that they didn’t get the rise I was looking for but it ended up working out.

These brownies are incredibly decadent.   They are rich, fudgy, and delicious.    The caramel and chocolate from the candies melted into the brownie mixture to create a caramel flavored chocolate fudge brownie that was super tasty.  The M&M’s and candy corn pieces were still visible in the brownies and made for a fun surprise.   This is definitely a great way to use up all of that leftover candy!

  1. I would not at all be sad these didn’t rise. Those super dense brownies are the best. You could make them in an 8 by 8 for thicker brownies. Good luck with all those trick or treaters.

    1. Thanks! They ended up being incredibly rich and really delicious 🙂 I am going to try them in a smaller pan next time though.
