Are you ready for Cinco de Mayo?  I am!   I know a ton of Americans who celebrate this Mexican holiday just because we like to drink margaritas and eat tacos.  I actually have a student at school this year who is from Mexico and his birthday is May 5th and he is so excited that he shares his birthday with Cinco de Mayo.  It’s neat that he gets so excited about it and can still celebrate while in the United States.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a Guava Margarita!

Most years on Cinco de Mayo we simply make tacos or nachos.   A lot of my friends head to the nearest Mexican restaurant but they are always so busy and crowded and that’s not for me.  This year I plan on making basic tacos because the three of us will eat those and then I’ll make these Guava Margaritas for my husband and I.

You'll love the flavors in this Guava Margarita

I’m a big fan of margaritas on the rocks with salt.  I do not like the overly sweet frozen margaritas.   I need mine sweet and tart with that hint of saltiness.   So when you read that these are a fruit flavored margarita know that they are made on the rocks and are not super sweet.

The reason they are not super sweet is that I make my own margarita mix.  I don’t like the store bought ones because of the amount of sugar in them.  It’s too much.  I make mine with fresh limes, fresh lemons, and soda water.   I the add in tequila and orange liqueur.  In this case I also added in guava syrup in place of simple syrup for the sweetness and to give it some additional flavor.

Want a fruity and refreshing margarita? Try this Guava Margarita with fresh lemon and lime juice!

This Guava Margarita is delicious.   It tastes like fresh citrus and guava.   You can definitely taste the tequila underneath it all but it’s a pleasant flavor mixed in with all the fruit.  The salt on the rim pairs well with the sweet and tart of the margarita and it works well with spicy tacos or nachos.
