Looking for an easy to make holiday treat? Creamy white chocolate Eggnog Fudge is a melt in your mouth confection that is perfect for the holidays!
Every year I get excited to make a list of holiday treats and cookies that I’m going to make from October through December. I always try to make at least 4 or 5 types of cookies, some type of cake, and 2 or 3 types of fudge.
One of my new favorite holiday cookies are these Cookie Butter Cookies with Cinnamon Frosting. I can’t say no to biscotti and this Cranberry Pecan Biscotti is delicious during the holiday season. Kids love Hot Cocoa Cookies with a big marshmallow in the middle of them.
Of course I also have quite the collection of fudge recipes as well. With caramel and pecans my Turtle Fudge is great for parties or for gift giving. I also make a delightful White Christmas Sugar Cookie Dough Fudge that is a combination of two holiday favorites.
Now there are two ways of making fudge and for the most part I go for the quick and easy fudge recipes. However, for the holidays I generally make real melt in your mouth fudge.
how do you make fudge?
To make an easy fudge recipe you combine chocolate and sweetened condensed milk along with your favorite flavors or add ins and allow it to cool. It’s super easy. Old fashioned fudge requires heating sugar, butter, and milk and using a candy thermometer to get it to the proper temperature before adding in chocolate, add ins, and marshmallow cream (if desired).
While both types of fudge are good, old fashioned fudge definitely melts in your mouth. I had some eggnog in the refrigerator and thought it would be a great substitute for the milk in fudge. So I went ahead and made Old Fashioned Eggnog Fudge!
Eggnog fudge is a melt in your melt white chocolate fudge that only takes about ten minutes to make. It’s spiced with both cinnamon and nutmeg, has a creamy texture, and gets a lot of flavor from eggnog.
What can I substitute for the eggnog?
While there are a few things you can substitute nothing is going to get you the same flavor as actual eggnog. You can use milk in place of the eggnog and add plenty of spices. You could also use butternut and spices in place of the eggnog.
ingredients:
- granulated sugar
- salted butter (I prefer using salted butter because it cuts through the sweetness of the white chocolate.)
- eggnog (You can get eggnog in the refrigerator section in the market near the milk. It’s usually only available around the holidays.)
- white chocolate (I used white chocolate chips but you can also use white chocolate bars. I would skip the candy melts in this recipe since the white chocolate is the base flavor in the fudge)
- spices (I like using nutmeg and cinnamon but you could use other spices if desired like cloves or allspice.)
- Marshmallow cream (Marshmallow fluff would also work in this recipe and helps give the fudge that melt in your mouth texture.)
- vanilla extract (This extract just adds another layer of flavor to the fudge.)
To make the fudge combine the sugar, butter, and eggnog in a large saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a boil and stir constantly until the mixture reaches 235 degrees on a candy thermometer.
Add in the white chocolate, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Reduce heat to medium low and stir until the white chocolate is melted. Remove from heat and stir in the marshmallow cream. Mix until combined.
Spread into a 9 x 9 pan sprayed with cooking spray and immediately sprinkle with nutmeg. Allow to cool for 4 hours and cut into squares.
This fudge is super rich. It’s perfect for placing on a holiday cookie tray. It’s also a great gift to give to family or friends! Simply put the fudge in a cute container, tie a bow on it, and give it to those special people in your life who love food gifts!
How do I store eggnog fudge?
Store it in an air tight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. You can also store it in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 weeks. Just remove from the refrigerator 20 minutes before enjoying.
