Blackberry Lime Margaritas are a refreshing twist on the classic, combining juicy blackberries with tequila, lime juice, and a touch of sweetness. It’s vibrant, fruity, and perfect for sipping on a sunny day!
Summertime, summertime, sum-sum-summertime! It’s summertime! School is out for the summer and I’m enjoying time at home with my family. It’s nice not having a bed time and being able to get some things done during the day. It’s also the perfect time to relax and enjoy a cocktail on the porch at night.
I’ve realized that I haven’t been making or enjoying nearly as many beverages in the last year as I normally do. I know it’s because of how busy we’ve been and instead of making a delicious drink I’ll usually just pour myself a glass of water or get a diet soda. Plus most days we go and get some type of espresso drink so that takes up my drink calories.
I do enjoy making cocktails though, especially in the summer. My favorite summer drink is a mojito and this Fresh Cherry Mojito is the one I’ve been making the most. I also love white sangria recipes and the Grilled Peach and Pineapple Sangria is one that’s perfect for summer BBQ’s. For a classic you can’t go wrong with a Mint Julep.
Now that summer is here I don’t need those hot espresso drinks as much so I’m back to making cocktails. I went to work on a margarita flavored with fresh berries.
What is a margarita?
A classic margarita is a refreshing cocktail made with tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur, served over ice with a salted rim. It can also be made as a frozen drink. While lime is the classic flavor you can usually get them in a variety of fruit flavors.
I’ve done the whole strawberry margarita before so this time I went with blackberry lime margaritas. Blackberries just happened to be buy one get one free this week so it was the perfect time to make them.
I found a recipe for this drink but it made frozen margaritas and I’m totally an on the rocks margarita type of girl so I adapted it to my tastes.
The blackberries, lime juice, sugar, and water were poured into a saucepan and cooked until the berries burst then put through a sieve. The juice was then mixed with tequila and Triple sec to make the margaritas.
Sugar or salt on the rim?
That’s up to you! While this is a sweeter margarita and it’s fun to put colored sugar on the rim I still like the classic salt. Recently I’ve been mixing sugar with salt on the rim for a sweet and salty twist and I’ve been loving it!
Ingredients:
- fresh blackberries (you can also use frozen if you don’t have fresh)
- water
- granulated sugar
- limes (fresh limes are best but you can use bottled lime juice)
- tequila (use whatever brand you would normally drink)
- Triple Sec (or other orange liqueur)
- salt or color sugar for the rim
I poured the margaritas in a mason jar and kept them in the refrigerator to cool. When it was time to enjoy them I pour the mixture over top of ice and served them with fresh blackberries and a slice of lime.
The margarita was sweet, tart, and perfect for summer. This made enough for my husband and I to each have one and a half margaritas which was the perfect amount on a hot summer night.
Can I double the recipe?
You can easily double, triple, or even quadruple the recipe if you are having a party. Simply make the margaritas and store the mixture in the refrigerator in a pitcher. When you are ready to serve pour over top of ice in a glass.
