Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I think I might enjoy it even more as an adult than I did as a kid. I love dressing up, getting together with my friends, and having an adults-only evening filled with food, cocktails, and fun!
This year I’m hosting a Friday Halloween fun night for my friends on the Friday before Halloween, so we can all celebrate without the kids. Sometimes the adults just need a night out to themselves!
Because I’m hosting on a Friday night, that means I have to work all day, and will only have an hour or so to prepare before people start coming over.
The great thing is that I don’t have to spend hours getting ready for a fun-themed Halloween party! I can simply buy a few orange and black tablecloths, a few large spiders, some fun glasses for cocktails, and a pumpkin or two and I have my decor ready to go.
I like layering the orange and black tablecloths on my table and then topping them with silver candelabras that I have laying around the house with colored tapers sticking out of them. Scatter around a few spiders and plop a pumpkin or two on the table and I have my decorations for an adult-themed Halloween party.
The food and beverages were another story. Sometimes I go all out for themed parties, but since I have to work all day, I wanted to go for something easy but filling.
I figured if I could come up with a fun and frightening signature Halloween cocktail, then I could just serve something easy. I went to my local club to stock up on what I needed for the party.
I bought Sprite to go with my signature cocktail, Blood Orange Rum Punch.
I also picked up several 16″ Pizzas. These pizzas are awesome when you have guests because they are ready in just a short time. You can’t go wrong with pizza!
I wasn’t going to have time to make dessert either so luckily the club had plenty of Halloween cupcakes to choose from. I picked up a box from the bakery for an easy, but tasty dessert to finish off our meal. I also grabbed a few bags of pretzels so we could enjoy a salty snack during our fun Halloween evening.
Once I got home, I started working on my Blood Orange Rum Punch. I already had BACARDÍ® Superior rum at my house, because it’s my favorite rum, so I didn’t need to pick that up. Rum is a great choice for a signature cocktail and BACARDÍ® rum was the natural choice as it even has a bat on the label, which worked well with my Halloween decor!
Since I was making a Blood Orange Rum Punch as my signature cocktail, I wanted it to be easy to make. I simply combined BACARDÍ® rum with fresh squeezed blood orange juice for a beautiful deep red color.
Then I mixed in a little pineapple juice for sweetness and some lime juice for tartness. Because it’s Halloween and Fall, I wanted to add a bit of spice to the cocktail, so I added in cinnamon and nutmeg as well.
The great thing about this cocktail is that it can be almost entirely mixed up and refrigerated before the guests arrive. I’ll run a blood orange wedge around the rim of 8 cocktail glasses and then dip them into black sparkling sugar and set them aside.
Once my guests begin arriving I can pop a few of the 16″ Pepperoni Pizzas in the oven and pour the refrigerated blood orange mixture into the prepared cocktail glasses. Then I simply need to top each cocktail with Sprite® to give it a crisp, clean flavor and a bit of bubbles.
I’ve tried this Blood Orange Rum Punch and it’s delicious. It’s a little bit sweet, a little bit tart, and the perfect deep red orange color matching with the black sparkling sugar rim for Halloween. I can’t wait to share this signature cocktail with all my friends.
