I am so excited to share my newest project with you.   After living in our house for over a year, I decided that our kitchen needed some color.   I spend an awful lot of time in the kitchen and it has a laminate floor, light coffee walls, and dark brown cabinets.   Pretty much the entire room is brown.   However, I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on custom rugs, curtains, or anything else.   That’s when I saw the Tulip For Your Home product line.

New Tulip For Your Home products are a premium line of home-decor inspired stencil and fabric color products designed to work on all fabric and textile surfaces!  They are also super affordable and the paints come in a lot of gorgeous colors.  I headed out to buy a new kitchen rug, kitchen towels, pot holders, and an oven mitt.   I chose a brown color so it would match the rest of my kitchen.

Then I went to the ILovetoCreate.com website to get the products I would need to decorate the rug, pot holders, towels, and oven mitt.   I first looked at the stencils.  I purchased a large 14″ x 14″ chevron stencil for my kitchen rug.   Then I bought a sweet bird stencil for the rest of my items.   Next I chose the colors.   My first thought was to get 3 colors but I couldn’t choose just three so I ended up with 6 different Tulip soft paints.  I purchased pink, blue, green, yellow, purple, and silver.  I finished off my trip with Stencil Spray and a roller.  If you’d rather go to a store to buy the Tulip For Your Home products, check HERE for a list of stores that sell these products.

Once I received the products in the mail I set off to work.  I prepared my work station by putting down butcher paper on my table so I wouldn’t get paint all over it.   Then I opened all of the paints and squirted them onto paper plates.   Next I got a roll of paper towels, a few paint brushes, and a jar full of clean water.  Then I was ready to start.

How to Make a Chevron Rug:

1 kitchen rug

4 colors of Tulip Soft Paint

1 14″ x 14″ Chevron Stencil (from Tulip For Your Home)

1 small Tulip paint roller

1 medium paint brush

1 can of Tulip Stencil Spray

1.  Start by lighting spraying the back of the chevron stencil with the stencil spray.   Place it on the rug whenever you want to paint.  Press the stencil lightly so it sticks.

2.   Choose a color of paint and dip the roller into the paint.  Gently roll the roller up and down the stencil, making sure to cover the entire strip with paint.

3.  Wash the roller off and choose the next color of paint.   Continue doing this with all four paint colors.  When you come to the 5th chevron, start back with the first color.

4.  Now for the tricky part.   Carefully remove the stencil from the rug.   Move it over to the other half of the rug and gently place it where you want it to go on the rug.  Press it down lightly so it sticks.

5.  Continue painting until you come to the end of the rug.  Gently lift the stencil from the rug.   Allow the rug to dry for 12 hours.
