A refreshing margarita made with fresh lemon and orange juice, sweet honey, and plenty of tequila and triple sec for a sweet and tart summer cocktail.

In the summer if I’m having an adult beverage I’m either having a chilled glass of wine or a fruity cocktail.  That’s it.  I’m not a beer drinker and I don’t want a plain old rum and coke.  I’d rather have something fun and fruity.

I received some honey to try from a company and I’ve been really wanting to try it so when I found a recipe for Honey Lemon Margaritas I was ready to go.   We had both lemons and oranges so I decided to use fresh juices instead of a mix which always tastes so much better.

A bottle of tequila, a jar of honey, an orange, and a lemon on a wooden cutting board.

This margarita is super easy to make and is served on the rocks.   I like my margaritas on the rocks with salt on the rim but you do you.  If you prefer yours frozen then make this recipe and stick it in the blender with ice for a frozen version.

To make the margaritas you need to combine honey with boiling water then stir it until the honey has dissolved.  You may want to do this ahead of time because it’s better for the cocktail if this mixture has cooled to at least room temperature before proceeding.

When you are ready to make the margaritas combine the honey sweetened water, fresh lemon juice, fresh orange juice, tequila, and triple sec in a shaker filled with ice.  Shake for 30 seconds to combine.

Pour the margarita into two short glasses rimmed with salt and filled with ice then pour bubbly water on top.  Give it a stir and these drinks are ready for sipping.

I like the fresh flavors from the lemon and orange juice combined with the sweetness from the honey.   The salt gives it a nice savory element.   This is definitely a cocktail I can see myself sipping out on the porch all summer long.
