This week our group has an Italian theme. I know what you are thinking, here comes the pasta! I mean, how could I not do pasta? It's my favorite thing ever and if not pasta then pizza for sure! Are you ready for this? I'm not doing pasta or pizza. In fact, I'm not even sharing a food recipe. Today I'm sharing a recipe for Italian coffee.
Let's talk about coffee in general. Up until the age of 24 I didn't ever drink regular coffee. I'd have a latte or a cappuccino but no coffee. Then I met my husband who is an avid coffee drinker. I started drinking coffee on the weekends then soon it was every day. Now I drink coffee every morning and sometimes even during the day. I like flavored coffee but I'll drink regular too.
Even though I drink regular coffee I am still partial to my lattes. My favorite flavor is caramel but I also really like mocha and vanilla as well. However, the nearest coffee shop that has good lattes is over an hour away. This means if I want a great latte or coffee I have to make it at home.
This Italian coffee is really a combination of three different things. The bottom layer is a creamy hot chocolate. You can use packaged hot chocolate or make your own. I actually used a rich, dark hot chocolate and it was amazing. The middle layer is either a shot of espresso or really strong coffee. It's finished off with fresh whipped cream. I then put chocolate curls and cinnamon on top.
The resulting coffee is amazing. It's strong, chocolatey, and has a sweetened cream on top. The cinnamon on top just adds a bit of spice. This is the perfect weekend coffee. It's made for sipping and it's great on a chilly morning.

I remember my first trip to Italy. I wasn't a fan of their strong coffees so always ordered a latte---little did I know that's what the children drank! I still prefer my coffee with a good dose of milk or cream 🙂 Yours looks fabulous!

Thanks Liz! Like you, I always drink my coffee with cream!
