If you like Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes you’re going to love this sweet and creamy Christmas Tree Dip with pieces of the cake right in the dip!
The holidays are here and I’ve been making all the festive treats! While my go to holiday desserts are cookies, I’ve been looking for other options as well.
In my family we usually have multiple cookie trays, a pie or two, one good cake, and often times a signature dessert.ย ย More times than not I’m in charge of the cookies and pies.ย
There are two holiday cookies that I make every year.ย The first are Cranberry Bliss Bars which are a Starbucks copycat recipe but are actually better than the original.ย ย The other are Pittsburgh (Kaufmann’s) Thumbprint Cookies.ย ย
The pies often vary from year to year.ย Coconut Cream Pie is one that can be used at any holiday or any time of year.ย My personal favorite pie for the holidays is Apple Pear Pie with Crumble Topping and a Caramel Drizzle.
After searching around I decided to make something with a classic holiday treat.ย ย This year I’m making Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake Dip!
What are Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes?
Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes are a holiday snack made by Little Debbie around Christmas time every year.ย They are small, tree-shaped vanilla cakes with a vanilla creme filling, coated in a white frosting and topped with red icing stripes and green sugar sprinkles. These cakes are a holiday version of Little Debbieโs classic snack cakes.
I started looking for the snack cakes in October hoping I could find them so I could try this recipe and perfect it before the holidays.ย ย I was happy to find them the week before Halloween and grabbed two boxes.ย
This dip is super easy to make and it only has a handful of ingredients.ย Pretty much everything gets mixed together in a food processor and then it’s placed it a bowl and sprinkles are put on top. That’s it!
What do you use to dip in the Christmas Tree Cake Dip?
You can use a variety of sweet and savory dippers for this dessert dip.ย ย Vanilla wafers, graham crackers, and animal cookies are easy dippers that work well.ย If you want something a little bit healthier you can have apple slices and grapes on toothpicks.ย For a sweet and salty combination go for pretzels.
Ingredients:
- Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes (I used the traditional vanilla cakes but you can use the chocolate ones if you prefer.)
- Cream Cheese (make sure your cream cheese has been sitting at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before using)
- Milk (I used whole milk but you can use skim or plant based milk as well)
- Vanilla extract
- Whipped Topping (This is found in the freezer section.ย You can also use whipping cream and make your own fresh whipped cream if you prefer)
- Sprinkles (red and green sprinkles are optional but make this dip really festive)
- Dippers (see above for dipping suggestions)
Making the dip is super easy.ย Start by unwrapping all of the Christmas Tree Cakes.ย ย Set one aside to use to decorate the top of the dip.
Break the cakes in half and add half of them to the food processor along with the cream cheese and milk.ย Processor until smooth.ย Add the remaining cakes and the vanilla and process until smooth.ย
Pour the dip into a large mixing bowl.ย Fold in the whipped topping.ย Transfer to a serving bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until really to serve.
Before serving place the reserved Christmas Tree Cake in the middle of the dip and sprinkle with red and green sprinkles.ย
This dessert dip is so good.ย It tastes just like Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes which it should because it’s made with them!ย The dip is on the sweet side which is why I like to use pretzels or fruit as dippers.
What else can I do with the dip?
Ok hear me out here.ย ย I like to take a big sugar cookie, top with the dip, and top with another sugar cookie.ย ย You can eat it as is or freeze it for an ice cream sandwich like treat!ย You can also scoop the dip into balls using a small cookie scoop and then freeze the balls.ย ย Remove and dip into melted chocolate to make truffles!
