Lightly sweetened and full of fresh peach flavor this Peach Iced Tea is sure to be a summertime favorite.
Summertime summertime sum-sum-summertime……yeah I have that song stuck in my head today.ย The sun is shining, it’s hot outside, and I’ve been drinking gallons of water each day.
When I’m not drinking water I’m sipping on fresh brewed iced tea.ย ย I don’t know about you but I love an ice cold beverage on a hot summer day.
Of course most people like an ice cold beverage whenever they are drinking a cold drink.ย ย Not me.ย ย I’m not a huge ice fan, especially in the colder months.ย I’m perfectly fine drinking a room temperature soda or water during fall or winter but whenever it’s hot outside I need the ice.
One of my favorite summer sipper is Berry Iced Tea with Lemon and Ginger.ย When we have Asian food I love serving it with this authentic Thai Iced Tea.ย Sometimes I like to make my water flavored and that’s when I serve up Citrus Rosemary Spice Infused Sparkling Water.
I’ve been getting bored with plain old water and plain old unsweetened iced tea so I decided to jazz it up a bit.ย ย I’ve been experimenting with all types of flavored simple syrups using fresh produce I get at the farmer’s markets.ย ย This past week they had tons of peaches so I bought a big old bag of them.
WHat type of tea do you use for iced tea?
The answer is simply to use whatever type of tea you like best.ย For me, I always use black tea because it has a bold flavor that pairs well with fruit and sweeteners.ย Green tea has a lighter, more refreshing flavor with a subtle bitterness that is good with mint or fruit. White tea is delicate and slightly sweet which makes for a refreshing iced tea.ย Herbal teas are great for creating fruity or floral iced teas.
I really like peach iced tea that is just lightly sweetened.ย I’m not a huge fan of really sweet iced tea.ย ย I just don’t find it very refreshing.
Of course if you like your tea sweet you can always add more sugar to this recipe but I think the way I made it is really refreshing.ย This Peach Iced Tea is perfect for sipping on outside in the summertime.
Ingredients:
- fresh peaches
- granulated sugar
- water
- cinnamon sticks
- iced tea
To make the iced tea you first have to make the peach syrup.ย Combine the peaches, sugar, water, and cinnamon sticks in a medium saucepan over medium high heat.ย Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.ย ย Use a potato mashed or a wooden spoon and smash then peaches then simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and allow to cool for 30 minutes. Press the mixture through a fine mesh sieve and discard the solids.ย Refrigerate the syrup until ready to use.
How do you store the syrup?
Store the peach syrup in an air tight container like a mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
When you are ready to enjoy simply pour a glass of iced tea and add as much peach syrup as desired.ย ย Garnish with fresh peach slices.
This peach syrup is great to have on hand for summer parties and picnics since people often like their iced tea with different levels of sweetness.ย ย Simply put out the mason jar of syrup with a spoon and a big pitcher of iced tea and let people add the syrup themselves.
What else can I do with the peach syrup?
Use the peach syrup to make peach lemonade.ย ย You can also use it in cocktails like this Peach Margarita.ย If you are making a cake you can use it to soak the layers of cake with to have a delicious peach flavored cake.ย Finally, it’s delicious drizzled over top of vanilla ice cream.
I also like to garnish the Peach Iced Tea with a few slices of fresh peaches.ย ย It’s a flavorful and delicious summertime sipper.
