A glass full of Chocolate covered Oreo Pops.

This winter has been cold and snowy.   We’ve been home and online more than we’ve been in school this year.  I’ll be honest; I’ve been really tired the last few weeks and I haven’t felt like baking.

However, I still wanted to make a treat for Valentine’s Day so I started looking for no bake options.  I knew that I had a pack of Oreo cookies in the pantry and thought making chocolate covered Oreo pops would be fun.

I’ve made lots of Oreo desserts before.  One of my most popular recipes are easy Holiday Oreos.    I also make a fun Edible Christmas Oreo Ball tree during the holidays.  An easy no bake dessert is Oreo Fudge.  Finally, I also make a really tasty Oreo Cupcake.

What is an Oreo Pop?

An Oreo pop is a sweet treat made by combining Oreo cookies with a lollipop stick and coating them in chocolate or candy melts. They are a popular dessert item for parties, events, or as gifts.

Before making these pops I needed to figure out what color to make them and how to decorate them.  I ended up using red velvet flavored candy melts which were a dusty rose color.

I then picked up some Valentine’s Day sprinkles as well as sanding sugar.  I figured I would decorate some with sprinkles and others with a drizzle and sanding sugar.  The decorations are totally up to you!

What can I use to decorate the Oreo pops?

The easiest thing to use to decorate is going to be festive sprinkles.   You can also use sanding sugar. You could also sprinkle with nuts, crushed toffee, or crushed Oreo pieces.  Another option is drizzling in different colored chocolate or candy melts.  The possibilities are endless!

I use regular lollipop sticks in the Oreos.  I will tell you that I was very gentle and every single Oreo broke.  I simply pressed down on the Oreo’s and the cream held the stick in place until I had dipped the Oreos.  If you can get the stick in there without breaking the Oreo cookie more power to you!

Ingredients for making Chocolate covered Oreo Pops.

Ingredients:

  • Oreo cookies (I used original Oreo’s but you can use different flavors)
  • red or pink candy melts
  • Valentine’s Day sprinkles
  • colored candy melt for decorating (this is optional)

To make the Oreo pops place a lollipop stick in the middle of each of 24 Oreo cookies.   Lay a piece of parchment paper on a table to lay the dipped Oreo cookies on.

Melt the candy melts in a microwave safe bowl in 20-30 second intervals, stirring after each heating, until the candy melts are melted.

Carefully dip an Oreo into the melted candy and tap off the excess.   Place on the parchment paper and sprinkle with sprinkles if desired.  Repeat with remaining Oreo cookies.   Allow to harden at least 15 minutes.

Three Chocolate Covered Oreo Pops.

These turned out so cute!    I did two different types of Valentine’s Day sprinkles and then I drizzled some of the pops with purple candy melts and topped them with sanding sugar.

I love that you can change the colors of the candy melts and sprinkles for any holiday or event.  They are super fun to put in a vase as an edible gift or centerpiece or you can wrap a few in a plastic baggie and tie with a colored ribbon.

How do you store Oreo pops?

Store Oreo pops in an air tight container for up to 3 weeks.  Do not refrigerate them as that can cause streaking in the candy melts.
