After all of the sessions during the day my husband and I went to the pool for a quick 1 hour dip and then got ready for the evenings dinner which was sponsored by Certified Angus Beef and dessert which was sponsored by Dixie Crystals. When we got to the conference room they weren’t quite ready for us so we went down to the Idaho Potato talking heads booth. We were able to make a super fun video of us dancing to a song. They gave us several copies which I’m sure will be getting passed around.
When the doors opened the conference room had been magically changed into a beautiful dining area. We sat with some people we hadn’t talked to yet and had a fun dinner. It started off with a beautiful salad of heirloom tomatoes, blue cheese, and balsamic vinegar paired with Hess Wines Sauvignon Blanc wine.
The main entrée was a huge platter of juicy and delicious Certified Angus Beef strip steaks with chimmichuri sauce on the side. It was accompanied by collard greens, mashed sweet potatoes, roasted fingerling potatoes, and asparagus with Bernaisse sauce. Dinner was very tasty and a great way to showcase many of our sponsors of the conference.
After dinner they announced all of the winners of the recipe contests. The first one to announce was Certified Angus Beef. When they called my name as the third place winner my whole table went crazy! I walked up onto the stage and accepted my prize of a Certified Angus Beef hat (which my husband loves), a Certified Angus beef apron, and a wonderful steak prize package. I can’t wait for it to arrive at my house!
But wait….that’s not all! The next contest was the Idaho Potato recipe contest. When they announced that the winning recipe was Roasted Potatoes with Goat Cheese, Bacon, and Balsamic Vinegar I swear the people at my table started drooling. Imagine their surprise when my name was called as the person who created that drool-worthy recipe! That’s right; I was the first place winner and won $500. It was such an awesome night for me. Afterwards so many people kept coming up and congratulating me on my wins. I was certainly riding on a high the rest of the night.
Dessert that night was the two winning recipes of the Dixie Crystals recipe contest. Both were triple chocolate desserts and were delicious. They were served with a Hess dessert wine which paired perfectly with the chocolate. After dessert everyone from the Sunday Supper Movement got together and took a fun group photo together. This is definitely a memory I’ll be saving!
By this time my husband and I were exhausted from the day and headed off to our room to get some much needed sleep and to get ready for another full day the next day.
Sunday morning brunch was provided by Duda Farm Fresh Foods. I volunteered to help set up so I arrived at 7am and helped Elena set the tables with bowls of celery and oranges along with selfie sticks for a fun contest!
Brunch included amazing mimosas and Bloody Mary’s, fresh fruit, salad, citrus tarts, and plenty of other brunch foods. My husband and I sat with a super fun table where everyone was taking selfies. My husband and I took several of ourselves along with several with the others at our table.
After brunch I rode over to the Rosen College of Hospitality with Nicole. When we arrived there were only a few minutes to meet with the sponsors around the room. There was Pacari Chocolate, Florida Dairy Farmers, Chicory, Feedblitz, Out of the Weeds, and Datz. I ran around trying to meet everyone before we had to take out seats.
Once seated we learned about understanding Beef. That meant learning about different cuts, how to prepare beef, and anything else I’ve ever wanted to know about beef. Then we had a break. After the bread I spoke with Feedblitz for 30 minutes and talking about my e-mail subscriptions so I wasn’t able to go to the first session. I did however get my e-mails to look so much better.
Next up was a cooking demonstration by Certified Angus Beef Chef Michael Ollier. He cooked these amazing steaks with a red wine reduction that smelled amazing. I wish I could have tried some!
After lunch we had a few more sessions and then it was time for the Food and Wine Conference to come to an end. It was sad when Isabel stood up and gave her closing remarks. It was the end of a really fun weekend and I wasn’t ready to have it end!
Back at the hotel my husband and I did a little more swimming, talked about the weekend, and grabbed dinner. Neither one of us could believe we had to get up and leave the next morning! I can’t wait to go back to Food and Wine Conference again next year!
