Hosting a holiday party and don’t know what to make? Try this Dill Pickle Dip with all the tangy flavor of pickles, plenty of dill, and fried onions on top!
I like to do a lot of entertaining.ย Whether we are having people over for Game Day, hosting a dinner party, or just having friends over at the holidays, I love making appetizers and desserts whenever people are in our house.
While I do like making small bites my favorite appetizers and snacks to have on hand are usually dips.ย ย Of course my go to dip is always Instant Pot Buffalo Chicken Dip.ย ย A twist on that dip that has been very popular at our house is BBQ Chicken Dip.ย Another favorite is On The Bay BBQ Crab Dip.
Since I have so many hot dip options I wanted to make not only a cold dip but a dip that was vegetarian.ย ย After a whole lot of searching I decided to make a Dill Pickle Dip.
This dip is pretty easy to make.ย It starts like a lot of other cold dips with sour cream and cream cheese as the base.ย
Can I use something else for the base of the dip?
You can use plain Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream if you’d like.ย ย You can use half ricotta cheese or half mascarpone cheese in place of half of the the cream cheese. I wouldn’t substitute both the sour cream and cream cheese, just do one or the other if possible.ย
To add a little more flavor I added in some Ranch seasoning.ย ย ย Then I added in dried dill.ย ย Fresh dill would be preferred but I had a bunch of dried dill so I just went with that.
Then dill pickles are added into the dip.ย ย Using dill pickle spears that are chopped is the easiest way to do this but you can use whole dill pickles or pickle chips if you prefer.
Can I use a different type of pickle?
If you like a sweeter pickle and don’t mind it in a savory dip then you can go with bread and butter pickles.ย If you prefer a lot of heat then add in hot or spicy pickles.ย
You can leave the dip as it is or you can add a bit of crunch to the top to make it a friend pickle dip. I used crushed fried onions but you can also use a combination of butter and breadcrumbs.
Ingredients:
- sour cream
- cream cheese
- Ranch seasoning
- fresh or dried dill
- dill pickles (and the brine)
- worcestershire sauce
- fried onions
To make the dip combine the sour cream, cream cheese, and ranch seasoning in a mixing bowl.ย Use a hand mixer to combine the ingredients.ย
Add the chopped pickles, pickle juice, worcestershire sauce, and dill and mix well.ย ย Top with crushed fried onions.ย Serve immediately.
This dip was really good.ย ย It was creamy and tangy and perfect for dipping!ย ย There were pieces of pickle in every bite.
What can I dip into PIckle Dip?
We use tortilla chips, pretzels, and potato chips to dip into the pickle dip.ย You could also use carrots and celery for dippers.ย ย For something different try the Easy Pickle Dip on a bagel since it’s made out of cream cheese.ย ย You can even use it as a spread on a burger.
This dip is great to make for Game Day, for the holidays, or just to enjoy at home during the week.ย It makes a decent amount but you can easily cut the recipe in half if you don’t want to make a ton of it.
How do you Store Dill PIckle Dip?
Store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.ย ย After 3 days the pickles and juice will start to separate from the creamy base of the dip.ย You might be able to remix and use for an additional day or two.

The French onions really put this over the top (though you had my husband at pickles)!
