Five Santa Claus Nutter Butter Cookies

During the holiday season I make a lot of cookies.  It’s one of the things I like to do.   I generally make between 15-20 dozen cookies in between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

While most of my cookies are homemade I like to make a few that are semi-homemade.  These cookies are generally quick and easy to make and often times my son can help me with them so it turns into a project as well.

Easy Santa Claus cookies have just a handful of ingredients and can be made and decorated in under 30 minutes.  I easily made 2 dozen in that amount of time.

Ingredients:

  • Nutter Butter Cookies
  • white chocolate or candy melts
  • red mini M&M’s
  • red sanding sugar
  • mini chocolate chips

To Make the Cookies:  Melt the white chocolate in the microwave.   Dip half of each cookie into the white chocolate allowing the excess to drip off.  Place on a sheet of parchment paper or waxed paper.  After the chocolate has hardened dip 1/4 of the opposite end of the cookie into the white chocolate and sprinkle with red sanding sugar. Attach a mini red M&M for the nose and two mini chocolate chips for the eyes.  Place a dot of white chocolate on the hat for the “ball”.

The cookies are dipped into white chocolate and then decorated to look like Santa.  While the recipe gives you an idea how to decorate the cookies, there are so many different options for decorating these Santa cookies.

You can use different colored sprinkles, colored sugar, or any holiday candy.   Use white chocolate or try royal icing to stick the candies on the cookie.

How do I melt chocolate in the microwave?

Heat in 30 second intervals, mixing for 30 seconds each time before heating again.  You can also heat at 50% power, stirring after every 30-40 seconds.

How do I melt chocolate or candy melts on the stove?

Heat water to a slow boil on the stove.   Place a bowl on top of the pot of water making sure it doesn’t touch the water.  Stir constantly while chocolate is melting. It should only take 2-3 minutes.  Use immediately.

Can I use something else for the eyes?

You can use candy eyes or white and black royal icing for the eyes if you don’t have mini chocolate chips.

These cookies are super cute and so easy to make.  I took them to work and everyone commented on how cute they were and they said they tasted good too.

I’m actually thinking about taking them into work and having my kids decorate them for the holidays because I can heat the chocolate or candy melts in the microwave.
