Hot honey is all the rage.   It’s been popping up everywhere as a topping for everything from chicken and fries to ice cream and charcuterie.  It’s the hot condiment this year.

What is Hot HOney?

Hot honey is a type of honey that has been infused with chili peppers to give it a spicy kick. It combines the natural sweetness of honey with the heat from chili peppers which creates a unique flavor that is sweet and spicy. Hot honey can be used in a variety of ways, such as drizzling over pizza, fried chicken, or roasted vegetables, adding to marinades or dressings, or even using it in cocktails.

I’ve been on the hot honey train for the last year or two but generally I only eat it when I’m at a restaurant.  I know that it’s easy to make but I’ve been looking to buy some and haven’t been able to find any.

I recently found hot honey at Aldi and was excited to give it a try.  It was the perfect combination of sweet honey and spicy chilies.   I couldn’t wait to use it on french fries.  In fact, I made it my mission to use it on fries.

I have some really yummy fry recipes since French fries are one of my favorite foods.  My current favorite are French Fries with a mustard vinaigrette.  I also really like Old Bay Fries in the Air Fryer  Of course I also love Fries with Creamy Jalapeno Cheddar Dip.

At first I was just going to make a batch of fries and drizzle them with the hot honey.  Then I saw a recipe for Hot Honey Fries with Feta and I was sold.

The fries are also topped with fresh herbs.   I planted my herb garden about a month ago and I ended up using fresh chives and fresh cilantro on top of the fries.

What other Fresh Herbs can I use on hot honey fries?

In addition to chives and cilantro fresh parsley or thyme can be used.  If you want an Italian feel you can use fresh basil or oregano.  Feel free to use one herb or mix and match your favorites.  Not only will it add a ton of flavor but it adds a nice pop of color as well.

Feta cheese is a great cheese to use with these fries because while it softens it does not melt.  It has a nice tangy flavor which pairs well with the sweet and hot honey.  Plus it adds a saltiness which is always appreciated with fries.

Ingredients for making Hot Honey Fries.

  • frozen crispy french fries
  • crumbled feta
  • hot honey
  • fresh herbs (use your favorites but I like chives and cilantro)
  • fresh cracked black pepper

Cook the fries according to the package directions making sure they are hot and crisp.  Place on a serving dish and sprinkle with the feta cheese.

Drizzle the fries and feta with the hot honey and then sprinkle with the chopped herbs.   Top with cracked pepper and serve hot.

These fries were amazing!   The fries were hot and crisp while the feta was soft and tangy.  The hot honey brought a sweet note to the fries with a hot finish.  The herbs simply added additional flavor to the dish.

When can I enjoy Hot Honey Fries?

Hot honey fries are perfect as an appetizer.   They are also great as a Game Day snack or an after school snack.  I personally like to serve them as a side dish with steaks or burgers but they are really great to eat any time!

How do I store hot Honey Fries?

Hot honey fries are best enjoyed as soon as they are made.   You can store them in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day but reheating them is tricky.  I would put them in the oven for 5-10 minutes to get them warm and to crisp them up but they are not going to be as good as they were the day they were made.

I served these fries with a steak dinner and it was the perfect side dish.  Both my husband and I enjoyed them.  In fact, I couldn’t stop eating them!   They are definitely an easy but elevated side dish.
