This week Sunday Supper is getting tropical!ย ย We are sharing our favorite recipes using tropical fruits in order to get ready for sunshine and summer.ย ย I only wish I was on a tropical island with a delicious fruity drink in hand.
Have you ever heard of a drink that is supposed to taste like your favorite baked good only to buy it for $7.50 and find out it tastes nothing like it?ย ย ย That used to happen to me a lot.ย People would tell me the chocolate cake shot tasted just like chocolate cake.ย I’d buy a shot, take it, and be totally grossed out.ย ย Or the apple pie martini which tastes somewhat like apples but not apple pie?
That is not the case with this Pineapple Upside Down Cake Cocktail.ย I just happened to have everything I needed to make it in the house and decided to give it a try.ย I figured even if it didn’t taste like the cake, I could make a different tropical drink with the pineapple juice.ย ย The Whipped cream vodka and pineapple juice sounded wonderful but I wasn’t sure about the half and half.ย It sounded weird with the juice.
I mixed everything together in a shaker and shook it up.ย ย I poured it into a martini glass and didn’t like the way it looked.ย The half and half was beginning to separate and I was scared to try it.ย ย I took a sip and….WOW!ย ย Surprisingly it tasted just like pineapple upside down cake!ย ย I told my husband and he looked skeptically at me.ย ย He then took a sip, looked at the drink, then quickly took another sip!ย ย He thought it tasted awesome.
I wouldn’t have thought that the half and half would give it that extra cake flavor but it certainly did.ย This is a great party drink or a cocktail to enjoy outside in summer.

Heather,
I must confess that when I looked at the lineup for the Tropical Foods #SS, your drink was the most fascinating to me! I’m glad it turned out as well is it did, and it sounds delicious. I love the flavors of pineapple upside down cake and this is a drink I’d love to try!
It’s pretty delicious and actually tastes like Pineapple Upside DOwn Cake! I’m always leery of putting cream into a cocktail but it totally makes this drink!
Uhhh hellooooooo a dessert AND a cocktail? Woohoooo sign me up!!
How funny, the chocolate cake shot is actually one of my favorites! I have had a couple not so great ones, but for the most part, they’ve all tasted exactly like chocolate cake. The lemon is surprisingly essential to the cake flavor. I love cocktails with cream in them, so I’m so all about this one. Can’t wait to try it!
My favorite flavors in a drink?Yes please, cheers!!
I love the cake, the cocktail must be way better!
Dessert in a glass! Sounds delicious
I love pineapple drinks. I must try this!
I’ll have to go look for that whipped cream vodka, I’ve never heard of it. This drink sounds amazing!!!
Sounds so good!
Yum… I’m definitely saving this one for when I can partake in alcoholic beverages again.
I am SO trying this! It looks sinful and I don’t care how many calories are there! YUM!
Oh, boy. I think I want a double!!!
I agree that most fancy drinks just taste like the artificial ingredients in them. I’ll have to check this out for a refreshing change.
Whipped cream vodka? Excuse me while I head to the liquor store. Or I guess I need to wait a bit. It is rather early in the morning LOL.
It is really delicious with mixed drinks!
