Want a delicious recipe that’s sure to fool your friends and family this Halloween? Red Velvet Rice Krispies Treats look like raw hamburger meat but taste amazing!
I love making treats for the holidays. One of my favorite holidays is Halloween and there is never a shortage of fun and creepy treats in our house around the holiday.
In the past I’ve made this Bloody Glass Shard Red Velvet Cake with sugar glass shards on top of the cake. For an easy to make spooky treat these Bloody Eyeball Brownies are always a winner. I’ve even made Brain Cupcakes with Red Wine Shooters in syringes which look like blood when you shoot out the liquid.Â
While all of these have been fun to make this year I knew I needed something that wouldn’t take very long because our schedules are pretty crazy. In fact, I was looking for a no bake dessert that could be considered scary or spooky.
One dessert I kept finding were variations of Rice Krispies Treats. I already have a sweet Candy Corn Rice Krispies Treats so I wanted something a little different that had a creepy factor as well.
What are rice krispies treats?
Rice Krispies Treats are a popular dessert made from Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallows, and butter. It involves melting the butter and marshmallows together, then mixing in the Rice Krispies cereal until coated. The mixture is then pressed into a pan to cool and set before being cut into squares or bars. They are known for their chewy texture and sweet, buttery flavor. They often have additional ingredients added to them like chocolate chips, sprinkles, or flavorings.
I found these Raw Meat Rice Krispies treats which looks exactly like uncooked ground beef.  They are made with red velvet cake mix for the flavoring and the color.
Basically it’s a mixture of the classic marshmallows, butter, and Rice Krispies combined with red velvet cake mix and added red food coloring. I used Americolor Gel red food coloring to get the deep red color without using a ton of food coloring.
The thing you need to make them really appear as though they are raw meat are the styrofoam trays that meat comes on. Get clean, unused trays, put the Rice Krispies treats on them, and then cover with plastic wrap for a realistic look.
Ingredients:
- Rice Krispies cereal
- butter
- marshmallows (mini marshmallows work best)
- red velvet cake mix
- red food coloring
To make the Rice Krispies Treats melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat.  Add in the mini marshmallow and stir until melted.
Add in the red velvet cake mix and a few drops of red food coloring. Mix well. Add in the rice krispie cereal and stir quickly to combine.
Spoon the rice krispies treats into lumps the size of your styrofoam trays and set them on parchment paper to coo.  Allow to cool completely.
Place on clean, unused meat trays, wrap in plastic wrap, and add a meat label if desired. You can also just serve on paper plates as well.
How do you store the rice krispies treats?
If you put the treats on the meat trays and wrapped them in plastic wrap you can leave them like that for up to 7 days.  If not putting on the meat trays then place the mounds in an air tight container and store at room temperature for up to 1 week.
These rice krispies treats really do look like raw meat. I packaged them on the meat trays, wrapped them, and put them on the table in the faculty room at work. People were freaking out until they really read the labels.
It’s safe to say that these are perfect for giving out at Halloween as a creepy snack.  It might take a few minutes for people to see that it’s a dessert and not raw meat.
DO I have to use the red velvet cake mix?
While you don’t have to it helps with the flavor of the treats as well as turning it red without too much food coloring. You can just add additional food coloring but be aware that red food coloring can often be bitter.
