These ooey, gooey TikTok Cinnamon Rolls are a viral recipe craze on social media! They are super easy to make but are the perfect upgrade to refrigerated cinnamon rolls.

I’m usually a fan of making most of my meals from scratch.   However, sometimes around the holidays I need to make something that’s semi-homemade for my own sanity.

I wanted to make cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning but I didn’t want to make them from scratch.  I already have some wonderful “from scratch” recipes like my Copycat Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls.  If you have a sourdough starter then my Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls are a total winner.  For an easy version try my Cinnamon Roll Muffins.

This time I went for a version of the famous TikTok cinnamon rolls. The original TikTok Cinnamon Rolls use heavy cream poured in the bottom of a pan where the cinnamon rolls will be cooked.  This makes the entire pan of rolls soft and gooey.

I decided that for Christmas this year I was going to make these cinnamon rolls but that I was going to use eggnog in place of the heavy cream in an effort to make a holiday version.  I thought that I could also make an eggnog frosting to go on top.

A bottle of eggnog and a tub of cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients:

  • refrigerated cinnamon rolls (I used Pillsbury)
  • eggnog (you can buy a small size in the refrigerator section during the holidays or make your own)
  • butter (I used salted but you can use unsalted)
  • brown sugar (I use light but you can use dark brown sugar)
  • cinnamon
  • cream cheese (use the full fat version, lighter versions don’t work as well)
  • powdered sugar

To make the recipe preheat the oven to 350 degrees.   Spray an 8 x 8 pan with baking spray.

Open the package of cinnamon rolls, placing the icing aside for later, and arrange them in the bottom of the baking dish.

Can I use a different size cinnamon roll?

The original recipe calls for Pillsbury Grands cinnamon rolls which will give you 5 cinnamon rolls to a can.  I actually used the regular sized cinnamon rolls which yield 8 smaller cinnamon rolls.   You can use either size and it will work.  My recipe is for the 8 smaller rolls, you will need to add 5 additional minutes of time for the larger Grands rolls to work.

Pour the eggnog over top of the cinnamon rolls and around the pan until the bottom of the pan is covered.

Combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl and mix well.  Drizzle over top of the cinnamon rolls in the pan.

Cover with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes.   I usually remove the foil for the last 5 minutes of baking so that the cinnamon rolls can brown on top.

Now it’s time to make the icing.   Combine the container of icing that came with the cinnamon rolls, the softened butter, and softened cream cheese.   Beat until smooth.  Add in the eggnog and the powdered sugar and beat until smooth.

After the cinnamon rolls have cooled for 5 minutes spread the frosting over top of the still warm cinnamon rolls.

Do I have to make my own frosting?

No.  You can simply use the frosting that is in the can but there isn’t much of it and it isn’t great.   Plus, by making your own you are getting more of that eggnog flavor into your cinnamon rolls.

Can I add anything to the cinnamon rolls?

You can add chopped nuts to the top of the rolls after drizzling the brown sugar mixture.  You can also add a variety of berries to the top and in between the rolls before baking.  Cherry or apple pie filling can be used as well.

How do I store the leftovers?

Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.  When ready to enjoy heat in the microwave for 30-40 seconds.

These eggnog cinnamon rolls were crazy good.  There were no firm, hard edges so the entire cinnamon roll tasted like the center which is the best part!

There was a definitely eggnog flavor to the cinnamon rolls but it wasn’t overwhelming and it was perfect for Christmas morning.   I would make these for brunch or a party as well because of how simple they are!

Can I double the recipe?

You can certainly use two cans of cinnamon rolls.  Place them in a 9 x 13 pan instead of the smaller pan.   Check on them after 25-30 minutes but you may need to add a few additional minutes of time.
