Hot Chocolate Fudge has a layer of salted chocolate fudge topped with a layer of creamy white fudge that is finished off with tiny marshmallows and a sprinkle of hot cocoa powder.
As soon as the weather starts turning cold I immediately start looking up fudge recipes. It seems a funny thing to think about whenever it’s cold outside but I often make it for the holidays, to give as gifts, and to share with family and friends.
I have a lot of fudge recipes on my blog. I’m talking close to twenty of them. While I don’t mind repeating these recipes I do like to try one or two new ones each holiday season.
So this year I’m going with hot chocolate fudge. I realize I have a Mexican Hot Chocolate Fudge recipe and a Hot Cocoa Fudge recipe but this one is a little different from both of those.
Ingredients:
- milk chocolate chips
- white chocolate chips
- sweetened condensed milk
- sea salt
- micro marshmallows
- hot chocolate mix
- Line a 9 x 9 baking dish with foil. Set aside.
- In a saucepan over medium low heat combine the milk chocolate chips and half the sweetened condensed milk. Heat, stirring frequently, until completely melted and combined. Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt. Pour into the prepared pan.
- In a saucepan over medium low heat combine the white chocolate chips and half the sweetened condensed milk. Heat, stirring frequently, until completely melted and combined. Pour over top of the chocolate fudge in the pan.
- Quickly top with the micro marshmallows and then sprinkle with hot chocolate mix.
- Put in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
- Remove from the pan and cut into 24 squares.
The best part of this fudge is how easy it is to make. My 4 year old and I made it together in just 10 minutes. The longest part is waiting for the chocolate to melt.
Another great thing about the fudge is that it has two layers. I don’t know about you but I love whenever the flavors come together and melt into one delicious flavor. The sea salt in the chocolate layer adds just enough flavor to make this something special.
I don’t have milk chocolate chips, can I use other chocolate chips?
Of course! I’ve used semi-sweet and I’ve used dark. If you prefer dark chocolate I would definitely use that instead of the milk chocolate. You can also combine two different kinds of chocolate chips if you have leftovers in more than one bag.
Do I have to add the salt to the milk chocolate?
No you don’t. I really like the flavor of the sea salt in the chocolate but not everyone does. You can just leave it out or you can add something else like a half teaspoon of cinnamon or a pinch of cayenne pepper to add something special to the chocolate.
Where can I find the micro marshmallows?
The only place I have found them is online. I use them in my hot cocoa bombs so I buy THIS big bag of them but you can also buy smaller jars if you don’t need a lot. If you are in a pinch you can use regular mini marshmallows but they aren’t the same as these tiny little ones.
Do I have to use chocolate chips? Can I use chocolate bars or candy melts?
I have a lot of opinions on this. I do think that you can use chocolate bars, they are actually better than the chocolate chips in many cases. I 100% would NOT use almond bark as it doesn’t have a good chocolate flavor and it’s better for coating things. As for candy melts, I would use the milk chocolate ones but I wouldn’t use the white ones as they don’t really taste like white chocolate. You CAN use any of these but I’m going on taste preference.
After letting the fudge chill for 4 hours you can remove it from the refrigerator. Use the foil to pick it up and put it on a cutting board. At this point I like to pull to foil off of it before cutting.
Cut into 24 pieces because this fudge is super rich. Once the fudge is cut you can place it in an air tight container and leave it on the counter for 5 days or put it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
