Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.  I always start making desserts and dishes in September just so I know what I’m going to end up making at the end of October.

Usually I go for Halloween dessert and finger foods.  Finger foods are nice to have because our son likes to go trick or treating and we usually eat a bit before going out and then more whenever we get home so snack foods are the way to go.

I rarely make drinks for Halloween but I’ve been thinking that I need to change that.   A good cocktail on Halloween would be perfect after going out trick or treating and this Vampire’s Kiss Cocktail is a great one.

Ingredients:

  • vodka
  • cranberry juice
  • pineapple juice
  • bubbly water or ginger ale
  • blackberries
  • black sugar

To make the drink rim a glass with the pineapple juice or ginger ale and dip it into the black sugar.

In an ice filled shaker combine the vodka, cranberry juice, and pineapple juice and shake for 30 seconds.

Stain into the ice filled glass.  Top off with bubbly water or ginger ale then float a few blackberries in the glass.

I went to the Dollar Tree and found these super fun glasses with a skeleton hand on them and that’s what I used for these cocktails.   Martini glasses would work well too or any other fun Halloween themed glass.

I like that this is a sweet and fruity cocktail but it has a wonderful deep red color to it that makes me think of vampire’s.  With the black sugar rim it’s a great choice for a Halloween beverage.

Can I use a different liquor?

Yes you can!  I’ve found that rum works well in this drink.  While I’ve not tried it I’m thinking that whiskey would probably work as well.

I’m not a big fan of cranberry juice.  Is there something else I can use?

You want to use a juice that is red to give it the correct color and also one that is just a bit tart.  Cherry juice or pomegranate juice would work in place of the cranberry juice in this recipe.

Can I make this a mocktail?

Absolutely!  Simply skip the vodka and add in more ginger ale or Sprite.   In this case I wouldn’t go for the bubbly water just because you want a little more sweetness in your mocktail.

Can I double or triple the recipe?

This recipe doubles and triples easily.  You can make multiple servings and put them in a pitcher to serve at a party or Halloween gathering.

This is a Halloween themed cocktail so have fun with it!  If you want to play up the Vampire theme rim the glass with a little corn syrup mixed with the cranberry juice and let it drip down the sides so it looks like blood.
