Welcome fall with a warm blend of spices in an Apple Chai Tea blend mixed with creamy warm milk and topped whipped cream and caramel sauce.
There’s nothing I love more than the food and drinks that come along with fall. As soon as the temperatures begin to drop I get in the kitchen with apples, pumpkin, and spices.
I’ve been doing plenty of baking so I decided it was time for something new. I wanted to make a beverage that would warm me up. Adagio Teas sent me a Chai Tea sampler pack that included Apple Spice Chai, Thai Chai, Chocolate Chai, and Masala Chai.
Lately I’ve made a lot of different tea recipes but I haven’t made a tea latte in a long time. I decided it was time to change that. I grabbed the Apple Spice Chai and made an incredible Apple Chai Tea Latte.
Ingredients:
- Apple Chai tea
- milk
- sugar
- whipped cream
- caramel sauce
- Boil water in a kettle.
- Steep 1-2 teaspoons of Apple Chai tea in one cup of boiling water for 5 minutes.
- Remove the tea leaves.
- Bring the milk and sugar to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Pour the milk into the tea and stir.
- Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
Way back many, many years ago my drink of choice in coffee shops was Chai Tea Latte. I didn’t like coffee at the time so I always drank tea. Now that I drink coffee all the time a Chai Tea Latte is a special treat when I get it.
I usually buy a Chai tea latte instead of making them but in all honesty it’s so easy to make them at home. I use 1-2 tablespoons of sugar in my recipe but you can adjust the sugar to your own tastes when making it at home which isn’t something you can do when you buy it at a coffee shop.
I find that Chai Tea Lattes bought at a coffee shop are overly sweet which is why making them at home is so much better. I also use a one to one ratio of milk to tea but you can adjust that to your taste as well.
What can I use to steep loose tea leaves?
There are many different products you can use to steep loose tea leaves. The cheapest and most common is probably using a tea ball infuser. I’ve used these for years and I like them well enough. I used this double walled porcelain mug with infuser. It’s nice because you can just pull the infuser out and drink your tea right from the mug.
What if I only have regular chai tea? How can I get the apple flavor?
I really recommend you get the apple chai tea blend. If that’s not an option then adding a few tablespoons of apple cider to this tea will work just fine.
Can I use chai tea bags instead of loose leaf tea?
You can but then it’s harder to get the exact amount of chai tea in this drink. However, if that’s the route you are going I would use one tea bag to one cup of water.
I love the idea of caramel with this drink. Can I add some to the actual tea?
Sure! Add a tablespoon or two of caramel to the warm milk and make it a caramel apple chai tea latte.
This really is the perfect fall beverage. It’s filled with spices from the chai tea and is so smooth and creamy from the milk. The apple is noticeable but not overpowering.
The whipped cream and caramel on top are a nice addition. They aren’t needed but it does give the drink a little more flavor and it makes me feel like I’m drinking a $5 drink from the local coffee shop.
